Best Album Cover/Title?

This has probably be done before. If so, mea culpa.

Now that even CDS are rapidly becoming passe, the art of the album cover seems to be heading for extinction. However, I still remember poring over full size LP covers in fascination (sometimes I must admit I was in a slightly chemically enhanced state).

My nomination for the best album cover ever is The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter by the Incredible Strings Band, which is also my nomination for the best Title too. For those of you not into pyschedelic folk world music this is what it looks like:

My favourite two

When I was younger I used to love the covers of the two Beatles compilations 62-66 + 67-70.

You can see in the images the change from boys to men, poor to rich, unknown to famous. Still love the two images. I know the first image was originally used on the "Please Please Me" album but I experienced the image first on the "red" album.

Beatles Blue

there *is* something haunting

about those two covers. It's quite powerful that the first one from the very early days (note Ringos quiff) where they were just best mates having a laugh and the latter one where they've bloody well gone and changed most EVERYTHING, can hardly speak to each other, but still, y'know, are happy enough in themselves to reprise their first publicity shot.

Probably 'cos they knew they wouldn't be doing another one of themselves in, say, 1974.

when these came out on CD, there were adverts for them where the 'other shot' would be superimposed such that you'd have the Red cover fabs being looked down upon by their older selves and vice versa

My Fave Title

I've said it before and I'll say it again is

I Oughtta Give You A Shot In The Head For Making Me Live In This Dump, which I bought, without hearing a note, on that title alone.
The cover art aint that shoddy either.

Anyone for Elton?

Captain fantastic and the brown dirt cowboy

I have to say that at the time I found the artwork on this album, a stunning piece of work, and if truth be told, still do.
Having just searched for an image for it, I find that its by a chap called Alan Aldridge. Rummaging through his web site, I also learned that he did all those Beatle type illustrations.

(I bet most of you knew that!)

A bit of hip-hop

"When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold" by Atmosphere.

I've no idea if the album's any cop, but what a title.
