Berlin CD shops

Steve Turner's picture

I am off to Berlin in ten days time - know the city pretty well after a number of visits there. However not really sure where the good cd stores are these days and getting info from Googling it doesnt indicate if the info is up to date or not.
Anyone able to give current info on good cd shops in Berlin?

Cover Music

Cover Music on the corner of Kurfurstendamm near the Kaiser Wilhelm church, was pretty good a couple of years ago. Don't know what it's like now though.

More Record Stores

...worth visiting:

"Mr. Dead & Mrs. Free" at Nollendorfplatz - small shop with brilliant selection of indie, rockabilly, Americana and Volker's idea of classics (Van Dyke Parks, Feelies, Television, Eno and The Fall). You might run into the drummer from U2 while you're there...

"Space Hall" in Zossener Strasse/Kreuzberg - lots of reggae and vintage soul. In the basement at the back there's a vinyl emporium. Next door is a comic book shop, and there are a couple more record shops in the area.

"Dussmann" at Friedrichstrasse is a big megastore (like you used to have in the UK). Fantastic selection (especially in the jazz and world music department) although a bit pricier than other shops.

Kreuzberg

I think I know the one you mean - tons of vinyl, CDs, T shirts, odds and ends. And an amble around that part of town (U7 to Gneisenaustraße) is pretty enjoyable in any case, tons of great record/comic shops, cafes and a really good English language secondhand bookstore just nearby.

There's also a good one (lots of rare vinyl in the window, but overall a bit pricy though) just by U-bahn Rosenthalerplatz. Come out the station and walk a few steps up Brunnenstraße, it's just on your left.

Thanks

I remember Dussmann and Cover Music from my last visit. I have seen one called Funkyquariat on the web - anyone been there?
