Behind Enemy Lines
Despite having lived in Newcastle since 1986 ( and indeed having no wish to live anywhere else ), my allegience to my childhood team remains . A work colleague , and friend , still relates that day 25 years ago when he opened the door to me and " saw this bloke with an Arsenal scarf on , didn't know to shut the door in his face or marvel he got here without anyone punching him " .
I ,alas, was not at the match on sat .I did get a phone call from one gooner mate at half time .
On the day that Newcastle won at the Emirates I had a gig that evening at the Toons training ground . Oh the stick I took .
Last night the gig was in the Irish Centre ,its across the road from the ground and bedecked with Toon legends . " Well lad " said Simon Donald of Viz fame " better keep your mooth shut "
Anyone else live behind enemy lines where all year you are ignored until certain fixtures ?

Ditto
I live in Newcastle too, but support Liverpool. I get stick fairly regularly but it intensified last week when we pinched Andy Carroll.
Bolton who?
Not an issue in Bavaria.
I also choose to support Munich's third football team, which elicits similar levels of bafflement from the locals.
I know a Man U fan
(a proper one) who lives in Leeds. He survives using a mixture of keeping his profile low and being remarkably thick-skinned.
We were at a Specials gig in Leeds a while ago when Terry Hall said thanks to the crowd for coming (cheers) "and I've wanted to thank you, for a long time, for Eric Cantona" (overall growl of disapproval, coins thrown at stage).
I think this is partly why I'm not into football, although some say that's worse.
I was on a train
From Manchester to Leeds the day United won the 2009 title. It was full of Man U supporters. I couldn't believe it!
Wow.
They must all be very discreet and have a secret handshake and stuff...
I have a friend
who married a Geordie (and massive Newcastle fan). She moved up to live in Newcastle. She ended up working for Sunderland AFC and she always joked (I assume it was a joke) that he was so embarrassed by this he used to tell his mates she was on the game rather than admit to the truth.
sadly i can believe this
Sadly I can believe this , I have worked with lovely people from both sides of this devide but blooming hell mention of the other lot and they morph into penticosts of hatred !
Yep
Live in Liverpool, support the Gooners. Never had an issue with Liverpool or Everton (or Tranmere) fans, though I do wince whenever I'm with the away fans at Anfield and the boring "Sign on, sign on" chant starts up...
On a related note, I had to smile when my (only) Newcastle supporting friend sent me this email earlier today:
I recieved as a text
I got that in text form 5 .15 on Sat !
Liverpool supporter...
...in Manchester/Salford/wherever the hell it is ManU claim to represent today. Used to be prudent to keep my affiliation to myself, but it's not so bad now there are more City supporters popping their heads above the parapet.
I thought
you would have been safe enough, as it's well-known that all United fans live in the Home Counties...
I know plenty of those round here
although a fair few of them would appear to have switched allegiance to Crawley Town. Glory seekers.
(I used to live in Manchester and it was mostly City, but then, our house was just about within sight of Maine Road. City were also a lot more likeable then.)
The joys of being a Toon fan in the Home Counties
and working in an office where all the London-based Premier League teams (and Crystal Palace) are represented, part 47: as if seeing all the Hammers in our office avoiding eye contact with me a few Thursday mornings ago wasn't enough, I got to smile smugly, um, sweetly at many, many Gooners today.
By contrast, the Palace half of the office were practically queuing up at my desk to pay homage (though after their win over Boro, it was more of a mutual appreciation-fest, really).
