Beatles - Revolution Take 20

Steven C's picture

Maybe I'm slow on picking up on this - and everyone else heard it months ago - but here is what seems to be an unreleased 11 minute version of Revolution 1 from the White Album.

Frankly I think they should have put it out in 1968.

Download as an mp3 from http://www.4shared.com/file/88782849/252f484d/BEArevo.html

It is available in a lossless format from http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1807511/775222/

That sounds really good, but

That sounds really good, but the sampling from Revolution 9, specifically the 'alraa-aaa-aa--aa-t' makes me a bit suspicious of its authenticity. Is there any way of knowing if this is definitely genuine?

Still exciting to here. Cause if Carnival of Light is ever released, I bet it sounds nowhere as good as this fake

It's genuine all right!

This surfaced within the last week as the highlight of a new commercial bootleg from a very reliable source. The session is detailed in Mark Lewisohn's indispensible 'Complete Beatles Recording Sessions' (4th June '68). There are further overdubs on the finished product that aren't present here and several long passages that aren't on the release version, or any previously released outtake.

Well...

...the original version of Revolution was split into two: the first half being renamed Revolution 1, while the second was used as the basis of what would eventually become Revolution 9. The recording presented contains basic elements (noticeably the vocal) which I'm reasonably sure I've never heard before, so I'm not yet prepared to write it off as a fake...

tell us more

i'm interested in the bootleg that turned up, what else do we know? anything else interesting on it, and is it Japanese? - they seem to be able to prise open most archive doors these days...

It's called....

'Revolution.....Take Your Knickers Off' on the 'His Master's Choice' label. 2 CDs in a nice little book. Other than this gem there's nothing much of any massive interest on it (Badfinger and Cilla Black sessions with Paul producing) and few previously available tracks. There's also a new Lennon set from the same label (John Lennon At Home) which is far more interesting.

I think they're $75.00 each but should be popping up here and there in the next few days, I would have thought.

i'm sorry...

...I thought you said $75 each!

Terrifying, and they say there is a global crisis, not in the dodgy bootleg market there isn't..

(thanks for the info!)

Nice...

...but the guitar effect that sounds like an angry fly gets on my nerves by the end of it.

Rich

Edit - right at the end that sound is isolated and it sounds more like an EQed string instrument (violin/viola), but it's still annoying!

Alternative version of Revolution 9

Wow, we're being spoilt! First Revolution 1, take 20; now Revolution 9, alternative mix! Is this real?!! :-) This is the new version which has surfaced along with take 20:
