but is there any other type of music which has failed to stand the test of time as badly as jazz-rock fusion? I recently made the mistake of buying a Return To Forever compilation. Jesus, what was I thinking? I've already given it to Oxfam.
Your mind is obviously made up but I like a bit of fusion. There has to be some structure and melody though, not just mindless blowing. But if you want 16 bars of easy chune then a poptastic chorus you won't find it here. But you already know that. Here's one I have loved for centuries.
....er, actually, there MIGHT be something in what you say...
No, no, hear me out chaps...
Much as I love the MO, and have a soft spot for a handful of certain other records that fall under the fusion umbrella (Miles Davis' 'Jack Johnson', Isotope 'Live At The BBC', Jeff Beck's 70s albums, the first two Stanley Clarke LPs, one or two others...), there IS a lot of crap that gets lumped in there too. I too took a chance on as recent remixed/remastered Return To Forever 2CD comp and... well, I keep meaning to give it a second chance...
Tricky...
One is a zany group with lots of catchy tunes, driven by a leader with a wry northern sense of humour, and the other is The Beatles.
based on frequency of my playing their records
have to be the greatest band in the world MO
Lads, obviously....
...you know where I stand on this. HAS to be the Beatles, doesn't it?
:-D
Not wishing to be argumentative (honestly!),
