Beatles conundrum

madfox's picture

This is a load of old tosh. But a mate tortured me with it, so I may as well piss you lot off.

What is unique, among the Beatles' recorded repertoire, about "Good Morning Good Morning" and "I'm Down"?

I must warn you now, the answer is not life-enhancing.

Little clue: It's about the song titles rather than the music, so that will give you some idea of the intellectual level this is pitched at.

Sorry, but it will be like a weight off if others suffer as I did.

Are they ...

Are they the only 2 fabs songs without a letter E in the title ?

0
jackthebiscuit | 11 January 2012 - 8:06pm

No letter 'e'

in the title?

0
Adman | 11 January 2012 - 8:06pm

Lady Madonna...

... doesn't have an abundance of e's.

0
Formbyman | 11 January 2012 - 8:08pm

Damn!

Not that then.

0
Adman | 11 January 2012 - 8:10pm

In fact...

... there's quite a lot with no e.

0
Formbyman | 11 January 2012 - 8:12pm

Another few examples ...

... I'll Follow The Sun, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and Julia.

0
Formbyman | 11 January 2012 - 8:13pm

That much!?

0
James Blast | 11 January 2012 - 8:14pm

It's...

... All Too Much (literally).

0
Formbyman | 11 January 2012 - 8:15pm

Clearly

I put absolutely no thought whatsoever into my answer.

0
Adman | 11 January 2012 - 8:20pm

Since when

did "the" have no e?

3
minibreakfast | 11 January 2012 - 8:58pm

I'm a dick...

... it's official.

0
Formbyman | 11 January 2012 - 9:19pm

Inspired by...

Inspired by television commercials ?

0
jackthebiscuit | 11 January 2012 - 8:14pm

Definitely true of Good

Definitely true of "Good Morning ...," but what TV commercial did "I'm Down" come from?

0
Lott | 11 January 2012 - 8:35pm

An old duvet

company I think.

8
Mr Fade | 11 January 2012 - 9:37pm

Oi!

who you calling old?

1
Nick Duvet | 12 January 2012 - 12:11am

Are the titles...

... said in the song the most? - or repeated the most?

0
Formbyman | 11 January 2012 - 8:18pm

Err

Err, Hey Jude ?

0
jackthebiscuit | 11 January 2012 - 8:29pm

But...

... there's lots of nananananaing between the "Hey Jude"s.

0
Formbyman | 11 January 2012 - 8:39pm

Nah!

0
James Blast | 11 January 2012 - 10:58pm

They were

barked by a passing dog, as the songs were being composed?

0
Adman | 11 January 2012 - 8:30pm

They were spelled out

by a ouija board, stored in Ringo's bass drum for emergencies.

0
Adman | 11 January 2012 - 8:31pm

My theory was...

..that they were the only titles containing just the vowels 'i' and 'o'. Then I thought of 'This boy' - damn!!

0
AlinCumbria | 11 January 2012 - 8:34pm

Were they really written...

...by the Earl of Oxford?

5
JoLean | 11 January 2012 - 8:48pm

Were they...

accidentally written twice?

*double post gag*

4
JoLean | 11 January 2012 - 8:51pm

My guess

Are they the only two Beatles song titles you might actually say in conversation?

I mean I don't go around telling people, "Hello Goodbye, I am a walrus."

2
Lott | 11 January 2012 - 9:01pm

Maybe not but I'd

Love You To

0
Mousey | 11 January 2012 - 11:44pm

Wait.

No, just let it be. We can work it out.

1
Sir Tainley Gno... | 12 January 2012 - 12:35am

something to do with the

something to do with the initials

GM = George martin?

not sure who ID is though

..very poor mr mingles, but worth a try

0
Charlie Mingles | 11 January 2012 - 9:03pm

Hmmm

Perhaps it's just the way you've typed it but could it be that they are the only song titles in which every word has a capital letter?

You realise I won't sleep until I have the answer, don't you...

0
The Muswell Hil... | 11 January 2012 - 9:25pm

First or last words

Are they the only songs that both start and end with the title.

0
Lying Doggo | 11 January 2012 - 9:37pm

Except for Hey Jude

Bloody Hey Jude

0
Lying Doggo | 11 January 2012 - 9:37pm

The only two songs to both contain all the following letters

M, D, O and N?

EDIT: If that is the answer, that's tragic :(

0
Stick | 11 January 2012 - 9:56pm

Has it got

anything to do with donkey porn and Judith Chalmers' sister-in-law?

5
Sting Ono | 11 January 2012 - 9:45pm

Are they both

In the same zone on the London Underground? Its been a while since I looked at a map mind

0
FakeGeordie | 11 January 2012 - 9:46pm

You began this post with the words

"This is a load of old tosh." Is all this, in fact, to use the lingo of the era, a massive 'put on', man? In the same way Derren Brown is always careful to preface his cheap camera tricks with a disclaimer?

0
Stick | 11 January 2012 - 9:54pm

Spookily

if you take the last letter from the first word in 'Good Morning' and swap it with the first letter of the second word in 'I'm down', it makes no difference at all.

Both titles are still the same!

And you can't do that with Hem Jude and Lady Yadonna.

2
Helena Handcart | 11 January 2012 - 10:28pm

Come On Man!

How can we sleep until you've told us.

0
Formbyman | 11 January 2012 - 10:47pm

I you say them backwards

do you get the message
"turn me on, dead man"?

0
hubertrawlinson | 11 January 2012 - 11:03pm

Fascinating!

and I thought The Sisters Of Mercy forum (www.myheartland) was arse.
You guys take the biscuit, cake, meat dish, jukebox and tablecloths.

probably the cutlery too

2
James Blast | 11 January 2012 - 11:04pm

Could it be

that's there's nothing unique whatsoever and this is just a wind-up?

0
Sir Tainley Gno... | 11 January 2012 - 11:05pm

And another thing...

How can two things be unique?

3
Helena Handcart | 11 January 2012 - 11:18pm

what is unique ?

0
Sour Crout | 12 January 2012 - 12:27am

I was waiting for someone to say that

OK, twonique, then.

0
madfox | 12 January 2012 - 11:04am

*Heaves bosom* *Pouts*

I'm sorry, but if you begin a post with the words, "This is a load of old tosh", how do you expect to be taken seriously?

Now: tell us the answer before I shoot this defenceless Lima Monkey.

0
Stick | 11 January 2012 - 11:19pm

And the answer is...

taps watch and thinks about going to bed.........

0
NE1 | 11 January 2012 - 11:23pm

blowin'

in the wind (type of wind not specified)?

0
DLM | 12 January 2012 - 12:38am

Table-tapping

in Bognor?

2
Happy Castle | 12 January 2012 - 2:59am

A Guess...

Do they have exclamation marks on the proper sheet music or album listings? I have neither to hand to check.

0
Bamber | 12 January 2012 - 11:00am

Sorry for the delay

I went down the pub last night.

The guesses which focus on which letters are used in the two song titles are the closest. But it's more specific than just which vowels are used. Acutally, it's more of question of which letters are not used...

0
madfox | 12 January 2012 - 11:07am

Of the 5 vowels,

both songs use only i & o in the title

Leaving a, e, & u unused.

0
mojoworking | 12 January 2012 - 11:16am

Letters

The only two songs containing none of the letters of Pete Best's name? No research gone into that; just clutching at straws

0
The Muswell Hil... | 12 January 2012 - 11:20am

You don't know how close you are

Well, you do now.

0
madfox | 12 January 2012 - 11:25am

Is it

that none of the letters of the band name are in 'em.

ie; No letters from "The Beatles"?

1
Georgedivided | 12 January 2012 - 11:24am

Got it

I did say it wasn't life-enhancing. But, gee, I'm proud of you guys. You got there pretty quick and nobody really moaned.

0
madfox | 12 January 2012 - 11:29am

We'd have

got there a lot sooner if Stephen Merrick had got off his lazy arse and done his job properly! HIS job. Not ours.

2
Sting Ono | 12 January 2012 - 12:21pm

He was too busy

with Marco, Terry-Lee, Garry Tibbs and yours truly...

Sorry - I'll get me coat

2
Six Dog | 12 January 2012 - 12:33pm

Just noticed this thread

Is it that none of the letters from the name "The Beatles" are in either of those two song titles?

Easy, really.

Edit... Oh, someone else has got it already as well. Not to worry.
