Beards, Kaftans, 24 Track Concept Double Album...Soundtrack of Our Lives are back!

Retro Man's picture

Word magazine's ideal cover star Ebbot and Swedish psych, classic rockers (one is a dead ringer for an extra out of "Almost Famous") The Soundtrack of Our Lives, finally have a new album out called "Communion".

I was wondering if anyone here has seen them live as they completely blew me away the first time I saw them - I really had that feeling that I just wanted to be in that band.

Anyone else seen a band that you really just wanted to join?

Anyway, here's their new single "Flipside"...

The Sound Of Our Lives

Like the single. I saw them a few years ago when they were supporting Oasis and preferred their set. I only have their first album but must get up to speed again. Great band, great grooves, I must support them more, they deserve to be a lot bigger as do Secret Machines.

Secret Machines

Just checked them out after your mention, they are really good too and I can see a connection with Soundtrack. A take on psychedelia and classic Who, Led Zep etc but with enough originality and great songwriting, I'll look into them a bit more.

Soundtrack have 5 albums out and a fantastic B-sides and rarities compilation - all worth checking out.

Here's a link to their site:

They put one in mind..

..of The Kinks in the 70s
(Which is great of course)

Great Band

How many albums have these guys made to date? I have three, but have just picked them up sporadically over the years, not because I have been eagerly anticipating each new release. This clip made me realise how much I like them, so I better start collecting them in earnest!

Show at Bush Hall on June 23rd

A fantastic live outfit - well worth a look, especially at only a tenner a go.

I first saw this lot supporting Doves at Cornwall's Eden Project and would travel further to see them than any other band that's currently doing the rounds.

There's a free download of new album track Ra88 currently available at http://www.tsool.net/

If you haven't seen them

I reckon it will be the best £10.00 you could ever spend!

In fact it's so cheap I'm almost tempted to offer a full refund if any of the Word Massive attend and are not blown away...!

Errr...I said "almost".

I saw them...

...at Manchester Academy 2 a few years ago, and they were, quite frankly, mindblowing. One the the very best gigs I have ever been too, and from what I heard on the way out of that gig a lot of people in the audience agreed/were converted. I really hope they tour this album in the UK as I'm looking forward to seeing them again.

I got Communion last year directly from the band (hey! they even signed the sleeve), and it is superb, along with all of their other stuff.

Check out their early incarnation too, Union Carbide Productions. Well worth a listen.

They lost me with their Joob Joobs !!

pleasant enough and they can play... I liked it enough to check out whether they ever stray from the middle of the road.

Indeed they do stray...

but that track is pretty laid-back I suppose.

The first album "Welcome To The Infant Freebase" is one of the least middle of the road records I've heard, it's a classic.

I think live is where they excel though, they just have this huge enthusiasm for playing live - think The Who meets The Clash, a blur of energy - even the keyboard player rocks-out!

Behind the Music...

is the best place to start for the uninitiated. One of the finest from the last ten years.

Here is a very poppy number from the album:

Many moons ago (2002 I think)

Saw them at an NME gig headlined by Ash at the Astoria. The lead singer managed to get the whole audience to sit down at one point.

They were good from what I remember. If I'd been at the same gig now, I think I would have enjoyed them more. "Sister Surround" sticks in the head as a good track.

What an amazing gig at Bush Hall last night!

The band were on real form, a fantastic show.

Bush Hall was a great venue, even if it was located in an area that resembles The Wire's West Baltimore.
Beautiful building hidden away but shame about the awful sound, probably more suited to an acoustic show rather than a band of big Swedes jumping around all over the place!

Did any Word bloggers go?

Good news is they are back at the Scala in London on August 20th!
