Battlestar Galactica

Anybody else finding the much anticpated final few episodes of this a bit, well, crap?
I was completely unaware of the "re-imagined" Battlestar Galactica until I read an enthusiastic review of the DVD boxset of whichever season(can't remember which now)in Word.I was sceptical to say the least.Memories of the Lorne Green original saw to that.
Anyway I decided to try it and,to put it mildly, couldn't believe how good it was.I'd really gone off TV science fiction, what with the endless variations on the "Stargate" theme, the Gawdawful "Andromeda",etc. But this was way different and I devoured it boxset by boxset until brought to a juddering halt by the US TV writers' strike The second half of season 4 was joyously greeted(via Sky One)on to my screen afew weeks ago.
But...but.. something's wrong.I'm just not getting the same buzz from the show.Is it me?Am I just missing the instant gratification of having the next episode at hand on DVD?.Is the seven day wait for my next fix allowing me to go "off the boil"?Or has the show just lost it?

Completely agree

I got turned onto it last Summer by a friend and tore my way through the various boxsets, but there's just something about the episodes currently airing that.. well.. they just don't feel the same.

I can't help but wonder if its a result of the writers simply trying to write themselves out of a jam in a hurry?

On the offchance that you missed it as well...

Firefly was very good too.

I'm sticking with it

I thought the 2 recent "Mutiny" episodes were great stuff, tense and at points, pretty bleak. Some of the best of the entire series.
From reading around, the last few episodes have been described as "bleak"(Mr Olmos himself) and I'm prepared to let the "talky" episodes happen as I trust that they're ultimately serving a purpose when it will all make sense..hopefully. They've been very good at killing off unlikely characters and from my understanding, very few of them are left standing at the end.
I do think watching week-by-week has an effect, especially when we have to put up with a sweaty Iggy Pop every 20 minutes.
Firefly wasn't bad, if just a little bit too "cowboys in space" at times.

The eps since the break

have been some of the best TV I've seen in years - particularly the Mutiny. The last couple of eps have been very heavy on Basil Exposition with characters spewing great chunks of plot. The last trio of eps are called 'Daylight' - so guessing will be dark as hell

Got to say I've been loving it.

The Mutiny, the explanation of the Final Five and the return of Ellen have had me absolutely riveted. Last week's was rather dull but I like the fact that we're now entering the final stages where anything can happen - and, ideally, will. I'd much rather have this than more self-contained space battles.

Baltar is Tony Blair, isn't he? Becomes president, backs the wrong horse and then gets God.

Baltar

I've got him down as more of a Jim Jones character...

it's ace

I caught up to the beginning of season 4 on dvd, and that was by far a better experience than fast forwarding through "iggy needs an iron", every two minutes it seems, but think the last season has mostly held up. I can't wait to see how it all ends, but expect it to be badly!

I'll be catching up later

I'm hoping that all of the last season will be released in one set at some point. I eschewed the boxset of "Season 4.0" on the basis that I knew the series hadn't finished yet and I don't want to watch it until I can watch them all.
