Bandwagonesque
Posted by Chimney Singing... on 28 June 2011 - 12:06pm.
I was watching that Creation Records documentary last night and it occurred to me that if there's one album that badly needs remastering it's Bandwagonesque. It sounds like it's being played through clock radio speakers - one of those records (like Pills Thrills n Bellyaches) that's just too quiet.
I wonder if I could get submerged into the guitar wash a bit more then I might actually understand why people prefer it to Thirteen.
(I've never been able to understand why people have a downer on that record, I reckon it's by far their best effort).

Volume
If the sound is too low then turn your volume knob clockwise. Good mastering doesn't mean louder ...
Right.
Even if you turn it up it still sounds quiet. The guitars aren't loud enough - that's a mixing issue right?
I think I know what I mean when I say 'loud isn't just volume'
ok
Fair enough. Wonder if the the vinyl (if it exists) is any better?
It does
It is.
If
Suede are getting the full remastered special expanded edition treatment then surely the Fannies deserve it too. 20th anniversary of Bandwagonesque and everything... Suppose it'll never happen now.
Thirteen
I really like Thirteen too. But then the Fannies haven't released anything I haven't really liked to my knowledge.
Mellow Doubt
What's the album that's on, Grand Prix? Haven't listed to that in a while, but I love the songs on there, and the first album is a stormer. Never liked Bandwagonesque much though.
The sound on Bandwagonesque
The sound on Bandwagonesque is reasonable, but it would be nice to see it get the deluxe edition treatment it deserves. They toured the '91 album in its entirety a few years back, and there was no word of it happening then. Perhaps for the 20th anniversary ...
I like 13 as well. It's a bit under the radar, the transition album between their two best records. But it's got some great songs.
Never had a problem
with Bandwagonesque but another album from '91 is definitely recorded too quiet and that PJ Harvey's 'Dry'
