Bands who have one song that describes them perfectly..
Posted by shane pacey on 19 September 2011 - 2:18pm.
My first thought was Roxy Music "Remake/ Remodel"..pretty well precisely what they did.
Then I thought no..
Depeche Mode "Useless"

It doesn't get more 'what it says on the tin' than...
...'We Are The Grumbleweeds'.
And lets not forget Ian Anderson had a whale of a time (he MUST have seen it coming, surely...) telling interviewers in 1976 and ever since that he wasn't 'Too Old To Rock'n'Roll'...
As usual the answer is
"Chico Time"
"Jaded"
by Aerosmith. (Ironically, it's not a bad song and has got a bit of energy about it!)
Marc Bolan/T.Rex
Metal Guru
U2
Bad
A haw, haw, haw, haw...
Z.Z.Top - La Grange
Check out those pinched harmonics on the fade out.
I've always liked this track
but could never remember it's title.
So thanks for posting it (Amazon says thanks too).
ZZ Top are one of those bands who, at the best, bring a smile to your face.
Just wish
it hadn't been licensed to bloody Chevrolet for those adverts. Still, a great song for fairly shonky motors.
Boards of Canada
The Devil Is In The Details
also running:
Bob Dylan - Don't Think Twice, It's Alright
Peter Gabriel - I Have The Touch
Pink Floyd - Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun (or, if you don't like them: Up The Khyber)
The Rolling Stones - You Can't Always Get What You Want
Sigur Rós - Gobbledigook
and far too obviously:
Warren Zevon - Excitable Boy
My Name Is Prince
And I am Funky
The Smiths
Bigmouth Strikes Again.
JAMC
Some Candy Talking.

Well...
At the time it was slated for being the first profoundly unloud thing they had released.
Indeed
But I think if you take their career as a whole (rather than just everything they did before it was released) I think it epitomises them pretty well.
I totally agree Paul
for me everything they did sans 'noise' was pretty shit.
I known, I bought their 5 ellpees in 1 package. Darklands has a few tunes but the rest is dross.
After Psycho Candy they really were 'just another band' but, Bejezziz! they shone brightly albeit briefly!
All very well
but it's a song title itself that best describes the bands which we're after, not their definitive track.
Not sure I can come up with one...
Well depending on your definition of 'Candy'...
...I might still just about get away with it...
Buy the Psycho Candy 2CD+DVD reissue
It includes Some Candy Talking as a Peel session version I think and the DVD has the infamous Poly gig when they pissed off early.
All you need I reckon but for £10ish great value (not as good as the Suede reissues though!).
Primal Scream
'Rocks'
Madness
'Embarrassment'
"The Wild One"
Suzi Quatro.
Hole
'Awful'
XTC-Senses Working Overtime
The Waterboys-The Whole Of The Moon
Manic Street Preachers
"If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next"
**gets coat **
Suede
Lazy
Whitesnake
Here I Go Again.
The Monkees
with (Hey! Hey!) We're the Monkees which they were - quite liderally!
REM
Driver 8....but then I'm a fan of 'old school' REM - never been the same since Green!
No its not a track that epitomises them
(I also love that song) but a song title that describes them.
I reckon "White man in Hammersmith Palais" is pretty good in that line
Bowie - Changes
Beatles - We Can Work It Out
Oasis - Where Did It All Go Wrong? or Solider On
The Sisters Of Mercy
Bury Me Deep
of course
Wire
'Practice Makes Perfect' (on reference to their late period flourish)
Or if you don't like them, 'Bad Worn Thing'
The Archies
Sugar Sugar.
Supergrass
Alright
Marillion - Freaks
The Damned - Noise Noise Noise
B-52's - Good Stuff
dodgy - Good Enough
The Smiths - That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore
Queen - A Kind Of Magic
Anthrax - Caught In A Mosh
Sleeper - Delicious
FWIW I'd question Marillion
From the Fish era Script or Kayleigh are the extremes but Freaks would suffice and be a very good midway point.
But... After Howarth’s arrival and the subsequent 22 years Id have to offer Easter and This is the 21st Century as alternatives and in all honesty say that they defy categorisation at this point. Without wishing to be a fanboy in my opinion they have changed over the years and offered more than one may have originally expected.
All that said, the last two albums have been a disappointment and I'm hoping that their output and my listening cycles come back into alignment soon.
The Velvet Underground - The Black Angel's Death Song
The Stooges - Raw Power
Coldplay - Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall
Descriptive Titles
Sham 69 - Borstal Breakout
Cockney Rejects - The Greatest Cockney Rip Off
and then there's that Ivor Biggun song. Can't remember the exact title, but I'm sure it describes him perfectly
Ivor Biggun
