Bad Wisdom
For many years I had been tempted to read the writings of Mark Manning (aka Z from Zodiac Mindwarp).
I recently read Bad Wisdom (co-written with Bill Drummond) and Collateral Damage - both make American Psycho seem like Enid Blyton, being mainly being cheerfully composed of vicious, violent, hilarious sexual fantasy. I'm about to embark on 'Fucked By Rock' but I think I might need a break first as my head is full of the 'cosmosodomistic' nightmare of Bad Wisdom. Laugh out loud funny while being extremely and disturbingly wrong on a level that I personally have never experienced.
This review from amazon pretty much sums it up: "If constant references to "bumming" aren't your thing, then it may be best to avoid. If on the other hand, you found the Marquis de Sade a little tame, then this should be your next purchase"
Has anyone else put their mind through this particular wrangler?
I'd like to hear from someone who can tell me exactly what to think.

Once around the block ...
... with Zodiac Mindwarp's sexual fantasy about the Downs syndrome conjoined twins and the chainsaw was enough for me.
I'm not easily shocked
But I read Bad Wisdom due to my love of all things Drummond. I did find the Manning chapters a tad OTT though. Not something I will be reading to the kids at bedtime.
Fucked By Rock
is probably the single greatest book about the grim futility of being in a band that I've ever read. The chapter where he finds himself in the same hotel as The Mission - in some middle-of-nowhere US town - is just brilliant and sad and hilarious all at the same time. I would recommend it unreservedly.
It's in my bag and ready to go
I got some looks while I was flicking through it on a crowded train carriage this morning.
enjoy it
i have re-read it quite a few times. Also good: Crucify Me Again and this one.
I have read
Collateral Damage and absolutely loved it. The Tuggishness, farting, hot dogs, Scottish people all brilliant.
I just typed up an excerpt from the book about their experience in NY in the aftermath of 9/11, but then I remembered people get upset around here so I deleted it.
Also - ever heard the music?
I made the mistake of buying some Motley Crue after reading The Dirt. Keen not to make a similar mistake
Haven't read the books, but...
... I used to love the pre-Zod (i.e. Mark Manning) comic strip he used to draw for Record Mirror in the late 70's, "Rock & Roll Doylums", which is one of those occasional things that the internet seems to have virtually no record of (unless you know better, of course.)
