Entertainment For Lively Minds
Back In The Saddle
I know the website doesn't normally permit self-promotion, but I checked with Fraser first, who told me that my record of long service at Word's digital coal-face meant I could breach protocol this one time. (thanks, Fraser!)
Amongst other things, I'm a guitarist. 25 years ago, I left the Primevals. I've played a couple of gigs with them over the years, one supporting the Nomads, but my main thing has been The Beat Poets, who celebrate our Silver Anniversary later this year, just like The Majestics.
The Primevals are lined up to tour France soon, and somewhat surprisingly I'm back on board. How could I refuse the chance to get back in a van? I'm keeping a blog on it here http://backinthesaddle-elhombremalo.blogspot.com/
We are now confirmed to be playing in London on Saturday April 9th VENUE NOW CHANGED (229, Great Portland St), followed by Brighton on April 10 (venue now confirmed - The Hydrant) , then 5 gigs in France including Paris the following week. Dates being finalised just now.
French Dates now look like this :
12th April @ Le Sambre , Rennes
13th April @ Le Rigoletto , Paris
14th April @ Deep Inside Klub , Dijon
15th April @ Chez Paulette , Pagney ( near Nancy )
16th April , Nîmes , Cafe Olive
Paris, back in the day

If any of you are around, it would be great to see you there.
EDIT - London venue is now 229, Great Portland St. The promoters are using the latest photo, funnily enough.

That's the then photo
do we get to see a now one?
ha-ha!
I think you'll just need to come along to the gigs to see if "Age has wearied them, or the years condemn'd".
From the cover of a French magazine
hooray!
One of the Proclaimers as the frontman?
...
I shall try and be there
Get enough of us along and it could be another mini-Massive. And we can nudge each other, gaze admiringly stagewards and say "hey, we know him"
Mind you, when I saw the thread title I thought it was going to be one in praise of Matraca Berg.
I've posted this before, so why not seize another opportunity:
London?
Sounds like a night out to me.
Whereas I saw the thread and immediately thought of THIS:
Either of them, or of course this :
Gene Autry -
Wot Nae Scottish Gigs!
The Majestics wouldn't get away with not playing Scotland
There'll be some Scottish gigs
At the moment, London is the one that's confirmed. I'll update once there are more.
Very, very
Jealous. Good luck hombre
I loooked on amazon
and those that bought your compilation also bought ....nazareth ?
Jock & Roll
that's all I can say
All the best...
e h m... Hope you have a (James) blast.
Put me down
for Brighton. It's okay, you can blank me if you're with your cool friends.
Myspace?
Are you anywhere else. You really have to "try" with bloody myspace. How about Soundcloud? Much cleaner, neater and more importantly, capable of playing your music as soon as you click on it.
Good luck with the tour and that.
Your Tele
is the twin of mine. That may just be enough to persuade me to part with my Benjamins.
Good stuff!
Enjoy the tour and I'll look out for an Edinburgh gig, if and when.
One for the road...
Great to hear that - if I can make either the Brighton or London gigs, I'd love to see you do your thang. I might even ask shyly for an autograph afterwards. Or just get too drunk and tell you rather too loudly how f***ing great you were.
London
I should be around for the London gig, so hopefully will be there. The aging groupie look should work well for me.
Me too
Sounds fab, see you all April 9th!
Yes, me too
Looking forward to it. And look, these 3 posts look like stairs :)
oh yes, so they do!
:-D

can't wait!
Brighton Gig Now Confirmed
Brighton: The Hydrant
Time: Sunday, 10 April 2011 19:30
(Well, that's what we're being told just now - more details once they are available).
I hope Captain Underpants can make it and bring his cool friends too. Then we can have both ignore each other while hanging out with our cool friends.
It's a date!
My cool friends and I will stand at the bar sneering at your band and your outrageous comedy accents, and you and your cool friends can ignore us because we don't wear sunglasses at night. Then we can all go home happy.
I'm just joking. I don't really have any cool friends. I'll spend the evening going up to strangers and saying "See him? The guitarist? I know him, he's my mate, he is."
Note to self: Must grow fringe and cheekbones by April.
Sounds splendid
I'll have my sunglasses on so I won't see what you are up to.
In the meantime, to achieve the cheekbones of yesteryear, I'll arrange to have 8 of my back teeth taken out ....
brighton calling
Mr Underpants...not sure what the protocol is on this sort of thing
(long time lurker, first time participant )...but what is the prospect of a micro Massive meet ( Brighton Chapter )before or after the Primevals do their splendid thing? And by that, I mean a pint of Harveys and a packet of dry roasted.
Always up
for a pint of Harveys, gchip. Us Sussex boys were weaned on the stuff.
Let's see if we can scare up a micro-massive mingle - I'm sure there's other Brighton-based Wordists.
I think there's quite a good pub just opposite the Hydrant... dunno its name though.
Tom: are we going to need tickets for this thing? Are you anticipating selling out? (insert punchline here, obviously).
Tickets ?
I expect it's a pay-on-the-door thing.
I'll add info over on your thread once I know.
http://wordmagazine.co.uk/content/brighton-micromassive-v-the-primevals
I think you mean
Circus Circus. Which , despite its name, is a perfectly decent, laid back pub. Sounds like an excellent plan, and thanks for putting the shout out to the Brighton contingent.
Dates confirmed
Here's the tour poster
Nice poster!
Good luck with the tour.
Manchester Ahoy !
I will keep my beady eye out for your visit to the region
Good luck !
Glasgow Update
We are playing the 13th Note in Glasgow on Sat 26th March at 5:30pm as part of a multi-band garage rock/punk rock show.
I don't know about tickets - will update once I know.
It's great to have all this support - thank you all
*NEWS KLAXON*
Just so this gets seen - London Venue has changed to 229 Gt Portland St.
Looking forward greatly to this!

One Down!
We played our first gig with the new lineup on Saturday in Glasgow. We had a great time. The Massive were represented by Doods - good to see you again, amigo!
Paris venue has changed - La Feline "went on fire" so we are now playing at Le Rigoletto 337 rue de belleville

My apologies, I hoped to
My apologies, I hoped to make it but we had various family things on. It was meant to be my gig of the year!
Glad to hear it went well.
For your sake
I hope it doesn't end up like The Majestics' tour did.
See you later El Hombre
Looking forward to it!
I'm ironing my knickers
ready to throw at you later, El Hombre. (I've got to start now, they're big knickers).
And we're back
We had a great time, loads of laughs, enjoyed all the gigs and the great hospitality in France. It was very touching to meet a fan who said "I've been waiting to see this band all my life", and to meet other fans who last saw the band 23 years ago or more.
There are various photos updated on my blog, and here are some videos from Nimes.
Thanks again to everyone for their support - this has been an absolutely joyful experience.
I can't believe...
I didn't know you were playing Glasgow. Your gig at (I think) a wee club underneath the famous Barrowland Ballroom was one of my first dates with my FPO.
Good times :)
This thread
is why music matters and why all the other gumpf spoken about it doesn't really. Uplifting, inspirational and wonderful el hombre. Your musical career may not have brought you fame or fortune but I imagine it brought you something very few of us have experienced.
