That's ...
been and gone from the cinemas in Dublin.
Bloody Australia mate
It appears it actually opened here a couple of days ago.
Need to get with the program.
So, anyone any idea when The Empire Strikes Back is out?
Terrific Film
even if you aren't a fan of F1 or Senna. The last 30 minutes or so are jaw dropping.
Agreed...
I wasn't terribly knowledgeable about either before seeing it, apart from
knowing how it would end obviously but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I was...
... (whisper it) a little disappointed. There is a great movie here, about the rivalry between Senna and Prost. Not just a clash of personality or style, but a fundamental clash of philosophy - and when the film touches on that clash, it is brilliant. Sadly, it loses sight of Prost, and the rivalry, and starts to meander. The last act had me sneaking glances at my watch.
That feels cruel to the man and his family, but it's true.
True
I remember saying something similar on these boards before.
If you are a fan of the sport it might be interesting, but I found it incomprehensible. The appeal of little rich boys driving little whining machines around featureless tracks was an appeal which eluded me completely. All the drivers in it come across like petulant teenagers, arguing about traffic cones and things.
Contrast with a great documentary like Riding Giants which genuinely made me interested in a sport I have no knowledge of (surfing).
Hagiography
I enjoyed this despite never being a particularly fond of Senna.I've always felt that he was largely responsible for the "whatever it takes to win" attitude now so evident in F1.Sportsmanship is apparently an outdated concept these days.Senna was a seriously flawed person and the movie pretty much skips over this fact, whilst painting Alain Prost as a Pantomime Villain.
I agree
I am a great admirer of Senna, and enjoyed the film, but viewers should be in no doubt that what they're getting is not a balanced view.
The story attempts to vindicate Senna's actions at Suzuka in 1990, whereas in my opinion, what he did that day (deliberately driving into Prost at 180mph - spectator / competitor safety be damned) remains one of the most reprehensible acts ever seen in the sport.
It's already out on DVD isn't it?
Fantastic film.
Film of the year for me so
Film of the year for me so far.
Enjoyed it.
Saw it at the Cornerhouse in Manchester, and it played to a pretty wide-ranging group of people.
However, it wasn't as good as the Graham Hill documentary that was on the BBC a while back.
