Audio Books: What's the Jackanory?

Just had a 2week holiday in Italy and, while my skin was toasting, listened to Dylan's CHRONICLES vol.1 [read by Sean Penn] on my player.

This was my first time "reading" a book this way and I have to say it was damn enjoyable (especially in the blistering sun).

Couldn't help feel guilty for not exercising my brain more though. It just seemed so damn easy!

me too

italy that is. Puglia - 100+ degrees most days...
(i read the Nikki Sixx book - it was, literally, quite good despite me not having the slightest interest in Motley Crue)

I can't do...

books that way I'm afraid! I always find that my mind drifts off, and I have to 'rewind' to where I was! That probably says a lot about my attention span, or the books I listened to!!

Reading is easy

I love talking books and quite often listen to them. It's difficult to do late at night though as I always end up falling asleep half way through.

Mind you I tried listening to some Tolkein recently and it was deathly boring.

I've grown to like

talking books since I got into podcasts - great on a long car journey, the 2 mile walk to work or walking the dogs in the woods. I'm listening to Wind In the Willows at the moment - it's a book I meant to re-read for years, but never found the time, so a free version on iTunes was welcome.

I usually fall asleep..

and then wake up with a start, terrified as there's a strange voice in my bedroom!

Darkroom

one of the jobs I had involved a couple of afternoons a month processing archive films and prints and was deathly boring and repetitive, a talking book was the perfect companion
