Why are the dark Toblerones not on general sale this year ?

That is an outrage. Surely, I'd always bring more dark Tobes back to the office as not many liked them and that left more for me.

All the shops have the original, the white and the fruit & nut ones but I haven't yet found any dark.

They are still out there
They are showing up on both Tesco and Waitrose (Ocado) online shops and I also found a 400g bar on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400g-CHOCOLATE-TOBLERONE-4-DIFFERENT-VARIETIES.... You have to click on the drop down menu to choose the variety.
Also Marks and Spencer used to make a very nice Swiss Mountain Bar (just like Toblerone) in 70% dark but not sure if they still do it.

I've seen them online at Tesco but why can't I just walk into a shop and buy one over the counter ?

There are definitely a few out there
But they are hard to find. We were looking for ages before we found some (at the local Tesco, eventually).
