ATM - Let It Be the film....

Six Dog's picture

Do any members of the massive have any inkling as to whether this will ever see the light of day on DVD? After the Anthology series and the recent polished up re-issues, I'd kinda assumed that all parties were back on speaking terms and more or less ego free that would allow Let It Be to be finally released. Maybe not?

My old VHS is worn thin!

Unlikely ...

... to be released while Yoko is still alive is my understanding. However PM me and I can possibly help you out ;-)

Also

you may want to sell the VHS tape on ebay. A friend of mine recently sold a copy for $91 !!

I'd love to see a proper reissue

with extra features etc but I suspect it's not going to happen whilst any of the participants remain alive.

There's an authored DVD taken, I gather, from the Laserdisk edition which is widely available on your favourite Bittorrent site.

it's a terrible shame really.

I only saw it for the first time a few months ago, and I really expected it to be excruiciating to watch. I expected them to all be at each others throats permanently, but it's not really like that, is it?

Sure, there's the bit where George loses the rag with Paul, and the bit where John just stares into space, vacantly, while Paul rabbits on about something, but there's still (for want of a better word) 'love' there between the 'lads in the gang'. They do smile at each other.

I think that it would show great maturity on the part of the directors of Apple if they authorised an official release. The way the break-up is glossed over in the Anthology is just brutal; if memory serves there's one episode that goes from The White Album to Abbey Road, and it's talked about as if the viewer should know everything about it already.

Let It Be wouldn't give the full story either, and whilst it's not pretty in places, it'd be one of the few post-breakup releases that would

a) sell
b) not give the fans the feeling they're been treated as cash-machines.

There's a dodgy version

openly on sale in Australia. I think it originates from S.E.Asia (no shit Sherlock).

Looks like it was taken from a VHS, but it has a proper menu and quality is OK.

No extras though.

It's a curio

and not worthy of addition to the canon in my opinion. Knowing the high regard the various estates have for the quality of material released I wouldn't be surprised if there is a clause in some document stating that this never gets an official release.
And with the websites stated above there is even less of a reason to sully the back catalogue.

I picked up my copy in Thailand incidentally. Watched it once.

the last reason given is

that macca doesn't want a film of them bitching at each other out there. He wants to preserve the Ringo '4 guys who really loved each other' line. There are some nice boot sets out there with the film plus extras (winter of discontent). A couple of the recent 35mm transfer with improved sound were available at last London mingle. *walks away whistling*

I was training in my Gym and one of the others there trying to stay in shape was Michael Lyndsey Hogg and I asked him.

He said at that stage that he had either completed or nearly completed the Directors Commentary and that the release was immanent.

I heard afterwards that PMC & Ringo didn't want it released after seeing the completed product. Something to do with the all the bad Karma that was tied up in it. Who knows. Could be a 'story on top of a stick'!

One thing for sure though the director had sorted it out at his end.
