ATM: iPad Crashes!

My wife and son were loading some of the video, that my son had been shooting, onto his iPad (1st gen) with an iPad camera connection kit and his iPad has gone dark and we can't resurrect it.
Anybody got any suggestions?

The catch all Apple solution
is to hold the power button and screen button simultaeously for about 10 seconds.
