ATM: Instrument identification needed

Here's a rather wonderful version of After The Goldrush by Emmylou, Dolly and Linda.
My question is...What the hell is the guy at the back, on the right, playing? It looks like he's coaxing sounds out of a giant slug by gently massaging it.
Any ideas?

Although that giant slug idea sounds promising.
Thanks
Now I can go to bed not worrying about giant musical slugs.
Great video
Replaying 1:35 -- Emmylou Harris has the most beautiful eyes, you could go in there and never come out.
She's getting hotter
the older she gets!
Sorry, no room...
...I've been in there since 1975.
My cat
is named Emmy as her eyes remind me of the other Emmy.
That is all. Carry on.
My initial thought
is that a redistribution of pies from Linda to Emmylou is needed.
Note how Linda's scarves
entirely distract us from her body mass.
(Edit - and how Dolly's body mass entirely distracts us from everything else, including breathing ...)
when was this recorded?
Seems a bit odd to update "1970s" to "20th century" in the lyrics when - if recorded in last 11 years then "21st century" would be more accurate and actually scan better.
Very nice though
From 1999's Trio II
In retrospect, they may as well have gone for '21st century'.
