ATM- I would like to hear some new cover versions please!
Posted by ganglesprocket on 11 January 2012 - 11:43am.
I was arseing about on You Tube and found what I can only describe as my new favorite thing in the world ever. It's Rammstein covering Kraftwerk's The Model and it's fantastic.
So people of the massive, kindly point me towards some cracking covers which I'm unfamiliar with please! The odder the better.

Same song, different arrangement
The Model is the gift which keeps giving...
and Giving
Sandie Shaw
I'm at work so can't embed the vid but do a youtube for Sandie doing Sympathy For The Devil. It's one of my favourite cover versions ever, but I'm not sure it's for the right reasons.
Here it is...
... and yes, this is excellent.
So good I'll resist the urge to post her version of Burlington Bertie from Bow...
Yikes!
I made it to 1:32 before fleeing. Do I win a prize?
I don't think so
1:08 for me
Stoned
while we are on the subject
Foo Fighters
You could fill a whole thread with excellent covers by the Foo Fighters. I'm not sure how obscure their cover of Band On The Run is, but here it is anyways.
Baker Street
Here's their rockin' Baker Street. (Bob Holness plays the guitar solo)
Low - Africa
I can't seem to find this on youtube anymore but the onion AV club recorded the mormontastic Low doing a great version of Africa by Toto.
This one?
Frank Sinatra - Both Sides Now
I've never liked Joni Mitchell's voice, which sounds like someone from the WI singing Jerusalem. Frank's version of her song is better.
Mike Flowers Pops -Velvet Underground Medley
It's not new...
...but I still love the Ben Folds cover of "Bitches Ain't Shit" by Dr. Dre. He somehow manages to make it sad. I don't know how.
NSFW audio, obviously.
seconded
I like this live version:
also on the same tip, Nina Gordon covers Straight Out of Compton, also plenty NSFW
Try digging around in these
They include links to other covers sites as well.

Just found this.
Azealia Banks covering a fabulous Interpol song fabulously.
Nouvelle Vague - my favourite cover band
So many to choose from but this is sublime -
'In a manner of speaking'
Three
Waits covering "The Return of Jackie And Judy" by the Ramones
Radiohead do Carly Simon's Bond theme
Bjork covers Joni Mitchell's "The Boho Dance"
I'll raise you an Aimee Mann "Nobody Does It Better"
Or from the same David Arnold project
I really love this....
The Leisure Society
Do splendid versions of Me & Julio down by the school yard and Gary Numan's Cars. Not sure if they are on Youtube as I'm not able to access that here. Look forward to listening to these suggestions when I get the chance later.
Keyboard porn
Tubular Bells by the Brooklyn Organ Synth Orchestra
Late period Jam
Always been quite partial to this. Thirty years later I decided to look up the original, it's a belter.
Joey Ramone - What A Wonderful Word
Coverville
Which someone here recommended (sorry, I can't remember who) and it's an always entertaining podcast.

He still does this.....
Camera Obscura on the bus ....
... covering Rod Stewart covering Robert Palmer covering The Persuaders
And just in case you've never heard the original....
.... it sure beats Rod
Top version
same cd
New Found Glory
Swing version of Seven Nation Army
They also do Blitzkrieg Bop and Killing in the Name of
This is just FANTASTIC
Also worth seeking out Merry's versions of the entire Gimme Shelter, The Acid Queen and Rainy Day Women.
Paul sing Bill
Here's Paul Heaton of the Beautiful South singing a very wonderful Bill Withers song, You Just Can't Smile It Away, on Later.
Emm Gryner
My current favourite!
Any Trouble
Clive Gregson is a good writer/singer/guitarist but I think his best skill is as an interpretor. Listen to this great arrangement.
But....
Great version
Shawn Colvin got the song from Clive Gregson when she did a spell with him in Richard Thompson's band. Shawn then passed it to Alison Krauss.
Here is one that I like
I hope you like it too. It is a cover of Lykke Li "I Follow Rivers" by Triggerfinger, the self-styled loudest band in Antwerp, but it is not loud at all.
The Belgian radio station has had it taken it down from Youtube, you have to find it elsewhere. And they wonder why nobody likes them. It is still out there though.

Last Train to Clarksville
From the amazing Cassandra Wilson:
Fiona Apple sings...
Across The Universe: never tire of this, and it has a memorable video too. My memory is playing tricks on me though. I don't remember it being in black-and-white, but I can't find a colour version.
Paul Simon's Kathys Song
Real nice version...not usually my bag but good is good..Eva Cassidy..I believe she passed away some years back.
