Why isn't it possible to give a down?
Once upon a time..
Such a thing was possible. But it caused rancour and flouncing. So Fraser removed the facility.
Well in essence you just
Well in essence you just did. But I don't see how you could diss this album. Ram is his masterpiece and widely acknowledged as such, at least in the states, where the album's stature has grown steadily in the last 5 years. There's been 3 Ram tribute albums by indie artists in the last 2 years alone. I'd give myself an up arrow if I could. ;)
Ram
Absolute gem.
This is where the gold is in Macca's solo back catalogue, not Band On The Run.
*GASP!*
Ranger in "post-'69 recommendation" shock!
The Beatles
Revolver. First album I ever bought.
Neil Young

Frankie Goes To Hollywood
Liverpool – if you take away the singles, their debut stinks. Their second, on the other hand, stripped away the zeitgeist for something far more subtle. After Two Tribes and Relax – Rage Hard was always going to be too understated to match their commercial success – but listening to it now – it is only a whisker away from that other contemporary slice of Trevor Horn genius – Slave To The Rhythm. Elsewhere the album is carefully crafted and the quality never drops as far as it does on some of their debut’s rushed filler

The lowest selling greatest album ever?
Love`s "Forever Changes", despite what Hepworth and his mates said about it in a long ago, but not forgotten, by me anyway, podcast.
Erm.....
.....what did they say about it?
They didn`t rate it...
...they claimed it was over rated, what do they know about ...anything!

R.E.M.
Fables of the Reconstruction of the Fables...
Joe Boyd London classic at least TWO WHOLE ALBUMS before they started getting proper massive.
I defy you to hear "When you greet a stranger, look at their shoes..." without becoming wistful.
good shout.
It's been way too flaming long since I listened to Fables... so I'm going to remedy that right now.
You're welcome !
How was it ?
This is my favourite REM lyric/ending I think.
There wasn't even time to say
Goodbye to Wendell Gee
So whistle as the wind blows
Whistle as the wind blows with me
If the wind were colors
And if the air could speak
Then whistle as the wind blows
Whistle as the wind blows
The very acme
of wistful melancholy. Have an up.
How was it?
I wanted it to go on longer. And the bittersweet Wendell Gee seemed to compound that sentiment.
When I get round to buying the new record, I think I'll do an REM marathon... maybe working backwards.
I just did.
Don't work backwards. Work forwards. It's unbelievably rewarding and interesting. There aren't many bands you can do that with: tracing their slow growth and sudden explosion of form.
