Anyone got plans for tomorrow?

A song from the very first CD I bought (I was a late adopter) has been going through my head for the last couple of days. Seemed appropriate to share:

Fittingly, once I got my first CD home, ready to explore the delights of digital sound, I found that "Rapture" by Anita Baker had been replaced by some other anonymous artist's music on the (correctly packaged) CD.

So today won't be the first time that Rapture will turn out to be a big disappointment - probably ...

Great singer, shame about the production

I used to love that album. Last time I listened to it, all I could hear was the ghastly, gauzy, none-more-80s production. And yet, and yet. There are some great songs, and her voice is gorgeous. Sweet Love is on that 101 Soul Classics comp I acquired from amazon a couple of days ago, and I was able to ignore the production, mostly, and focus on a beautiful, sensuous vocal performance.

Seconded

A few years back I put on my copy of Rapture. It lasted less than a minute because of that horrible 80s production.

The disc then ended up in a local charity shop.

It could do with a remastering job to produce "Rapture - naked"

I was scared to listen to it again

but I was pleasantly surprised that, for me at least, that whole 80's production thing seems to have passed through "naff" and arrived at "retro".

And no amount of jacket sleeves pushed up to the elbows can hide the wonder of that voice.

The production of Rapture

The production of Rapture was very much of its time. As a piece of work, IMHO, it stands head and shoulders above anything else in that genre in the mid 1980's.

It's very easy to decry it's production - but as I mentioned it was of it's time.

Regardless, the lady has an amazing voice.

I've been a fan for many years, going as far as buying the album Songstress when it was as rare as rocking horse sh1t. One final thing about Rapture is that the quality of the songwriting on it is flawless.

World ending, is it?

Sod this planning then. I'll email the head & explain that since human life is ending later today, I'll be kicking back, relaxing and catching up with some unwatched DVDs. No point deciding what Year 5 are doing in maths on Monday, is there?

Still, knowing my luck, it won't end, will it? Damn.

A friend is a big Man U fan

He's just posted on Facebook to say it can't be a coincidence that the end of the world is coming shortly after City finally win something

If it's all going to hell

Then Blondie can soundtrack my last few moments on Earth. See you all on the other side!
