Anybody seen an iViewer yet ?

SpaceBoy's picture

not close to a big M&S right now, but was intrigued by this development

http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/30091/cello-iviewer-iplayer-tv-video

(video may not work). One thing I am curious about is how the TV displays the iPlayer, is it shown in a small window by default and only made full screen (but presumably at less than Freeview quality) if you choose ?

Also curious about Panasonic's Freesat PVR if anyone has/has played with, one of these ?

Will it keep pace?

Not seen one but it will surely no different to plugging in an ordinary PC/Laptop and setting the iPlayer to full screen. You're right, it's no freeview but it's very watchable. Unless you're the sort of person that buys a new television every 18 months or so I would be quite cautious about getting a set specifically for this type of facility, considering how many times has the BBC changed the way the iPlayer does things in the past year I wonder if any firmware updates will keep pace. It may be a bit more fiddly but I think I'd rather have a standard television and a laptop with an HDMI output.

Should explain

I am doing the laptop to TV thing already-am just curious about this set, and whether it can do anything a PC couldn't (and also thinking of my Dad who might find it useful).

The HDMI-enabled Nokia netbook is interesting in this regard.

You can watch iplayer

Via Nintendo Wii or Playstation 3 (you can also get c4 and five shows via youtube on the PS3) You can watch in a window or full screen. Qualitys not far off freeview standard.

I think M&S

are supposed to be selling them exclusively for a while. I think we will see more and more TVs like this in the next year. I also read that Freesat is supposed to be offering an iPlayer channel or something.

How to get at the Freesat trial

at least on Humax kit if I understand this piece correctly:

Will be curious to hear about anybody's experience with this-I am thinking about getting the Panasonic Blu-Ray Freesat PVR combo in a while.
