Very sad am I
discovered just befroe Christmas that Jean Michel Jarre will be releasing a collection of pre-Oxygene and other stuff called Memories and Rarities. It may even include weirdness like this:
Is it just me, or does it sound like a cross between Sweet and Quo. In French?
I've pre-ordered
the new PJ Harvey and Mogwai albums already. So there's those.
Also looking forward to new stuff from a bunch of local bands. SLow Down Tallahassee, Champion Kickboxer and Smokers Die Younger.
Bright Eyes?
Didn't know but I shall look forward to it.
As for Elbow I think that will be THE album of the year.
2011
Fleet Foxes, Panda Bear, the Low Anthem, Flaming Lips's song a month.
British Sea Power's..
Valhalla Dancehall, out January 10th. It can't fail with a title like that.

If I keep saying it..
..then might they win the Mercury and finally find the audience they deserve? Don't know what happened there. This is what we get when Fraser goes on holiday.
I've got that on preorder 'n all
missed the streaming of it earlier this evening.
Slow Club
There's a new Slow Club album due, I'm excited!
I like Slow Club
But the first album disappointed me a bit. I really loved the version of "Dance Til The Morning Light" that was on the "Let's Fall Back In Love" single, and I don't know why they changed it for the album. Admittedly, the original was a bit obviously Oberst-indebted, but none the worse for that.
They need to do more bangy fun stuff for this second outing and avoid the slowies: I reckon they have it in them to be a great party band. No, really.

Elbow for me.
Matthew Sweet's finished work on his new one, called Modern Art, so they say. Don't know if it'll be out next year or not. Hope so.
Anything new by the Fountains of Wayne..
I was eagerly anticipating a new release this time last year, so i shall just keep waiting...

Elbow all the way for me
Elbow all the way for me too.
Not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but here is a taster that is blowing me away!
Mainly...
"The Big Roar" by The Joy Formidable.
Plus "Colour Trip" by Ringo Deathstarr (recommended for anyone who remembers the Jesus and Mary Chain when they were good)
I think there's a new one due from Ladytron and they're always worth a listen.
Interesting no-one's mentioned R.E.M yet :-)
The Joy Formidable...
...are ace, and really nice too. They're old friends of old friends, and I'm really glad to see them getting some notice.
In fact, I once offered to be their second guitarist. I don't think they seriously considered it for a nanosecond.
Joy Formidable
Although I'm not over keen on the music, they are very good live. Real energy. Seen them twice noe and going to see them again in Feb. Singer is lovely as well...
Ah, the lovely Ritzy.
Welsh and plays a Telecaster. Be still my beating heart.
*sighs wistfully*
A girl? With a Telecaster? *Makes haste to Google Images*
Oooohh..
I'll be a moment..
Live
I've seen them once live so far (sandwiched before Howling Bells and after Chew Lips, so that's a cracking line-up) and they were excellent then.
Seriously considering seeing them twice on the upcoming tour (in Leicester and Birmingham) and I can't remember the last time I did that for any band.
Joy Formidable MP3 freebie
Their ace 2010 single "I Don't Want To See You Like This" is among the 1000+ freebie downloads on Amazon if anyone's interested.

The video's OK too
Jayhawks
Repackage of Tomorrow The Green Grass, with extras.
Brand new album by The Jayhawks.
New Bright Eyes and Lucinda Williams albums? Yes please!
New Iron and Wine album - mixed reviews but still will take the plunge.
Fountains of Wayne? Possibly, don't quote me on that. Marvellous.
Hollywood Town Hall
is also getting the deluxe treatment - again with extra tracks.
One More
Nearly forgot the return of Thomas Dolby with "A Map of the Floating City". The two taster EPs he released in 2010 were very nice indeed.
And let's not forget...
...Quintessence 'Rebirth: Live At Glastonbury 2010', out in the first quarter of 2011...
How could we forget Colin
*insert smiley face here*
I was taken with the background film as I recently borrowed footage from the Bolton Moss Bank Festival taken in the '70s, featuring a young me and friends doing similar "freaking out in a field" idiot dancing to local bands. Happy daze.
Anyone follow Discographies on twitter?
I liked the one for Bright Eyes:
Bright Eyes: 1-7 "I had a roommate who wouldn't quit reading me his shitty poetry, so I moved out. Sometimes I wonder what happened to him."

White Lies
Really liked White Lies first album so I'm looking forward to their second effort, which is out on 17th of this month.
Oh dear
On another thread I rather recklessly signed up to the idea of buying no more than 12 new releases over the next year. Already I have pre-ordered The Low Anthem and The Decemberists. 10 to go and 361 days left in which to achieve my aim.
Kate Bush
