Annie, I'm Not Your Daddy
Posted by magicalex on 8 September 2011 - 8:49pm.
It astonishes me how many people I come in contact with who have never heard of Annie Clark aka St Vincent. So, if you haven't lets start with an awesome Beatles cover
And if you thought the 'fretwork' was pretty awesome, check this cover of a Big Black classic for one of the very few youtube clips where i REALLY wish i was 'at that gig'..
Of course, if she didn't write her own amazing material then none of this would really matter. So, here's my favourite pop song of the last 5 years (produced by the incredible John Congleton)
St Vincent have an album out in a few weeks (via the back on form 4AD) - do you think the time has come for Annie?

yes to all of the above
but this is my fave
See, I watch this and I think
'yes, it's all very interesting and clever and toe-tapping and it's clear that she can really play the guitar and write decent tunes' and yet I also never really care whether I never hear any of it again in my life. And, spookily, that's the way I feel about 99% of all the new music I'm introduced to. Which is largely why I only ever listen to Mott the Hoople these days.
Barring
Death May Be Your Santa Claus, i'm afraid i must vehemently disagree with you sir! Listen to Marrow three times and then let's speak again.
Ok, but give me a few days Maj-
I've got 'Honaloochie Boogie' on a loop.
This Is My Favourite
'Actor'
Is a splendid album
Video embeds
In future, we'd be grateful if you could limit video embeds to one per original post as we ask in the posting guidelines, and add others you want to share as the first comment.
Thanks.
aaah sorry
in the past, it automatically sorted my multiple embeds into an original post and comment, but not this time, so, will do.
I *heart* St. Vincent
I saw them at Latitude a couple of years back having heard good things about them, but not a note of their music. I was utterly transfixed, these gorgeous, delicate songs just transformed into something altogether more transcendent and powerful.
I'm agreed on Marrow being the best song too. It sounds like Michael Jackson in a nightmarish hall of mirrors... in an entirely good way.
Another little piece of synchronicity
No, not The Pleece. Annie/St Vincent 'answers questions' on this week's NPR All Songs Considered.
I have tickets to see her in Leeds in November.
I haven't been so excited about a gig for years.
New albums streaming on npg now. Very good it is too.
Reviving this thread
to say thank you for the recommendation two months ago. Strange Mercy is amazingly great - my favourite record of the year.
Anyone seen her on tour this week?
