"And when I'm not busy with the band I like to....." - Offstage Hobbies of the Rich and Famous

So the tour's over, the album's in the bag and apart from waiting for the revenue and royalties to trickle in what do you do during professional down time? Polish up your hobbies, finish your education or get an alternative (random and unrelated is best) career of course. Here's a few examples of how of rockers at rest spend their spare time - anymore for anymore?

One rule though - collecting things or painting things doesn't count.

Brian May - Doctor Rock. Literally.
Colin Moulding - Swindon based taxi driver.
J J Burnell - Shidokan karate instructor (5th Dan).
Captain Sensible - train spotting.
Alex James - blessed are the cheesemakers.
Kim Wilde - gardening. If there's a bustle in your hedgerow - call Kim.

At last!

After six months of stunned silence, my ground-breaking exposé of the unsavoury pursuits of celebrity rockin' railroaders gets a response.

I looked at it with a feeling of deja vu

At least this time, Archie, I feel I can make a comment.

I tried searching ..

to see if anyone had covered this before, but didn't see your earlier posting - whoops, sorry about that.

Colin Moulding - Swindon based taxi driver....

...probably more like a job than a hobby I'd imagine.

Perhaps not

"And in my spare time, there's nothing I enjoy more than chilling in my cab outside Swindon station waiting for the 6:42 crowd to arrive. When the weather's nice, I lean on the bonnet, light up a gasper, have a bit of laugh with that hot new dispatcher on the radio. Life is good."

Damn those Yankees

even "Model railroad" sounds cooler than "playing with his train set".

Also why trains are their any poptastic scaletrix fans?

Chris G | 26 June 2008 - 11:07am

Sea Sea Rider

Andrew Ridgeley (Surfing as a hobby)- must have a Scaletrix set somewhere.

Isn't Roger Daltry and wasn't George Melly both anglers?

Dave C | 26 June 2008 - 12:17pm

Billy's Whippets

Billy McKenzie - whippets were his true passion.

Stephen G | 27 June 2008 - 12:17am

UFO'S

Robbie Williams and Reg Presley are both starship chasers - they must be in a right ol' tizzy at the mo'.

Neil Young and trains

I seem to remember that Neil Young was so into his model trains that he bought the company....... (sounds familiar somehow)
