.. who almost never recognises Eric Clapton in phtoographs and on TV? He must have the most nondescript, generic face in rock.

Thanks Niks - I thought I was the only one who would have a problem picking Eric out of an ID parade.
For many years I didn't know what "the real" Robert De Niro looked like, either. And this having watched most of his films (and Godfather 2 is my second favourite movie of all time).
I do, however, have the knack of recognising natures sidemen and character actors (Ron Pember was always a favourite).
My mate John totally floored me at a Grand Drive gig a couple of years ago when I pointed out Mick Talbot. "Oh yes" said John nonchalantly "He's talking to the drummer from Denim!"

Many years ago a mate was at Euston when his arm was grabbed by an overexcited young man. He pointed back and said "Look that's Denis Law. He's just given me his autograph". Roy looks and replies "Yes and that's Roger Hunt he's talking to".
