'And I Would Do Anything For Love ...

Steerpike's picture

... But I Won't Do That'.

I always wondered what 'That' was. Tonight on Radio 4's Front Row, Meatloaf explained (none too patiently) that 'That' was simply what he said in the previous verse eg 'I'll Never Lie To You And That's a Fact'.

Seems obvious now. Meatloaf mentioned he has a mug bearing the slogan "I See Dumb People'.

I consider myself told.

And

the answer to 'sooner or later you'll be screwing around'. She sings all the stuff she expects him to get up to n he says to all of em that he won't

I can sort of understand his annoyance. Steinman's lyrics may be many things but they are hardly complex

You can't expect

Mark Lawson to 'get' popular culture. However hard he might try.

That

Shame. I always prefer it when these things are left to the imagination. Like Elvis Presley's Don't. Could mean anything...

That...

is one of my wife's bugbears, inherited from her dad. Someone just has to mention that they're not sure what 'that' is and she goes off one one, pointing out how 'that' is perfectly explained in the song, by both Mr Loaf and the object of his affections.
She's a bit scary sometimes...
