An unkindness of bloggers, anyone?
Posted by Handsome.P.Wonderful on 23 February 2009 - 4:48pm.
As I get older and wider, the term 'Massive' doesn't sit too well when used to describe myself and my Word chums. Can I sail some alternative collective nouns to see if they float with my Word colleagues. 'Posse' sounds good, like we're all cowboys. 'Collective' also sounds good, more contemporary, perhaps part of the Kraftwerk road crew. 'Family' has also just occurred to me, although it does conjure up an image of us all sitting by the fire in our cardies and slippers (where has that advert gone by the way?).
I'd be interested in any other suggestions, otherwise I will feel obliged to lose a few pounds.

How about
a 'neverthriving'? It's the collective noun for a group of jugglers, which might be appropriate as so many of us really ought to be doing something else when we're on this site.
An outburst
An embargo, a flight, a flood, a mess, a tribe, a torrent (hey, that's apt), a byte, a motley, a gnarl, a knot, a curmudgeon, an hora, a tirade, a panoply, a bloggade (sorry), a tantrum, a tempest, a flatulence, a festival, a pack..............
Having looked in the mirror
a greying would fit at this end of the electric string
Urchins...
I just like the word.
...
A Thompson of Word Magazine readers?
Considering
how much time we all seem to spend on here (when we really should be working)how about an Idle?
How about…
A solipcism…
A cowardice…
Oh, sorry…
… I thought I was on the Guardian blog site.
How about..
A Snobbery..
A bit obvious
but there's always ... a Thesaurus of (The) Word's readers
I quite like
A flurry. As in 'a flurry of words was unleashed'. Makes us sound quite threatening.
Perhaps ...
"A judgery of Word readers"? It's what we do best after all.
I'll be
the judge of that.
A Rally
Whilst taking Steven C's point may I suggest a Rally .
A collective of those from a differing backgrounds, passionate and articulate about an issue{ either for or against } .
I'll take a stab at the demographic here....
....and go for 'pod'.
A Wire?
Pays due homage to the interminable wittering about a certain TV programme in this neighbourhood; also makes subtle reference to one of our favourite artistes, Mr Cohen (Word On a Wire, anyone?!)
Having written this, I quite like 'Wittering' as the collective noun...
A Gigle?
It's a mixture of Google and giggle.
Google - there's an infinite amount of bollox written here, and of course, an infinite amount of musical knowledge.
Giggle - it's what happens to me almost daily as I scroll through the posts.....a couple of todays examples - whoever wrote about Loudspeaker communicating in Morse Code and the thread about Call My Bluff!!! Fabulous!!!
If truth be known I don't really giggle....it's usually a splutter.
A spluttering??
A shower..
as in "That Shower of B******* " ( I kid )
I like that
It's very Terry Thomas
Pronunciation is key
it has to be "absloot shah".
That's got my vote!
.
A Soufflé
Of Wordies.
"The word Soufflé is the past participle of the French verb souffler which means "to blow up" or more loosely "puff up" — an apt description of what happens ..."
Or change one letter
to get a scuffle or Wordies. Lets everyone know we can still kick up a bit of dust occasionally.
Phew, I need a sit down now...
Here's a good'un
A scrobble of wordies
A Complement
There appear to be general similarities in attitudes, approach and styles amongst the majority of bloggers here, young, old, male, female, squirrel etc.
Except of course when there aren't.
Even so most disagreements and diversions of opinion are expressed with courtesy and erudition. What a lovely lot you are. Complementing each other indeed.
Do I win? Can I have a badge?
PS It's not 'compliment'
A BLAG OF BLOGGERS?
or how about:
A wodge of word readers?
An anorak...
... ,or even a HORA of Word readers?
Reno
See 2nd response(but I did, uncertain, call it an HORA)
