An Antarctic Summer

keefus's picture

This time last year, I was working at Rothera Station, British Antarctic Territory. I'm still slowly sorting out the gigagbytes of pics I took down there, so I thought I'd share this with the Massive - a slideshow of some good ones, accompanied by the mighty British Sea Power:

Thanks for watching.

Wow!

That must have been an amazing adventure. Thanks for letting us share in it.
Also liked the music. Does most of BSP sound like that? If so I'll have to check them out.

Thanks for posting

It truly did look like a proper movie at times with shimmering seas. Bet you are glad you are back in England this winter.

Yeah right. We are glad to have you back though.

Fantastic

Those really set me up for the day. You must have had an incredible experience - would love to know more about it? (Or have you posted and I missed it?)

I'll be marking student work for the next couple of days, so I reckon I'll be coming back every so often to recharge, especially as my other favourite distraction, the webcam at the Edinburgh Zoo penguin enclosure ( http://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/EZPenguinCam.html ) wasn't active when I looked a few minutes ago.

Beautiful..

..and knowing BSP. it's only a matter of time before they play one of the Antarctic station canteens. Have you heard the new record Keef?

Thanks all

Prestonia - Haven't caught 'Valhalla Dancehall' yet, but will get it this week.

Curtis - that's one of BSPs more anthemic numbers; they can range from thoughtful, elegiac pieces to atonal yelling thrash-outs. They're often compared to Arcade Fire, if that helps.

Back here in rainy Leeds, I do have to remind myself that I really did go and do all those fantastic things. I've lots to occupy me here though, now that I've started my Teacher Training in Physics. Hopefully I'll go back South one day, but for now I'm concentrating on a new career.

But sorting through the pics can still move me to tears!
