An amazing new voice

Joe Muggs's picture

I know The Word doesn't hold with "next big things", and rightly so, but I really feel that it would be criminal not to alert The Massive to the sounds of James Blake. "Cyborg Tim Buckley" were the words that sprung to mind... he's a great electronic producer (less audible on this track than some of his others) but also a singer and multi-instrumentalist of no small talent, as you can hopefully hear from this.

He's only got an EP and a few demos floating around but I believe an album deal is being "inked" and I think you'll be hearing a fair bit of him next year. I think he's only about 20, too.

That won't work for me then.

I don't trust anyone under 35.

In that case I will take a listen.

You can't be too careful these days.

Quite so

some little oik tried to sell me something called "Babyshambles" recently. Told me it was pure rock'n'roll. Turned out it was cut with all kinds of rubbish and before I knew it I was shaking and puking in a gutter. You just don't know what you're getting out there nowadays.

I like it

Very Lewis Taylor like I thought.

I liked it too.

Good shout Mr.Muggs.
A little bit bonkers, and I usually like a chorus me, but interesting, well sung. Nice use of analog sounds. I used to have a monophonic Roland synth that sounded a bit like that.
Will keep an eye out for him. Or an ear. One of those.

yeah he doesn't do choruses as such

I imagine because his background is dubstep / dance music, he works with repetition... There's something of the Arthur Russells about it too. Gnomic, haikuish, a bit Zen....
