Americana Landfill enough of Indie Landfill

MrRadio's picture

I feel a counter revolution coming on why are American bands so lauded ?

so thank you The Hold Steady, Drive By Truckers,Willard Grant Conspiracy, My Morning Jacket,Calexico, Richmond Fontaine,Lift To Experience.

I don't want you in my life

who would you classify as American Landfill ?

I fear that...

...none of us have long enough to live in which to compile a truly complete list from this most overpopulated and phonily twangsome of genres. (Sorry if 'phonily' isn't actually a word, by the way!)

Incidentally, if we include Old-Timey music as a sub genre of Americana, does that mean we can classify its worst practioners as 'The Landfill That Time Forgot'...? Doug McClure with a straw hat and a banjo, anyone...?

I'll say this for Americana

It's a lot easier to avoid than Landfill Indie, for some reason. I've head of all the bands Mr Radio mentions - except Lift To Experience - and only actually heard Calexico and Richmond Fontaine, the latter of whom I've recently been introduced to, and like a lot.

My mate Andy got all excited!

The All-American Rejects! They're great! Buy the CD!

So I did. And, interestingly, it wasn't and neither were they. So they were rejected. And, so pissed off was I that I actually binned the CD. So they became the ejected rejected All-American Americana landfill landfill.

And this is true and not some horribly contorted string. They remain the only band whose product I've purchased and actually physically chucked after one listen.

So Lenny, let's get this clear...

...you were so unexpectedly dejected and ill-affected by subjection to this plastic-disc confection of disaffection that you elected to effect a rejection of the All-American Rejects and hence subject, to correct and bring to a stand-still, this handful of Americana landfill to a dustbin - so you'd only just win, and that was Andy's band killed?

Or have we in some way misunderstood you?

Did you see them supporting Sparklehorse?

I would have loved to see that show. I never saw 'em live, but liked the album a lot.

Nah...

... King Tuts Wah Wah Hut, headlining.

Dead good. Mindblowing in fact, one of those "could be like being at the sex pistols early on" moments. The fact that in the larger scheme of things it wasn't doesn't matter

Thats Uncut stuffed then

Americana seems to be generally all that exists in the world of Uncut, apart from the occasional re-visit to The Beatles, Stones or 1970s Rock.
Thats when theres enough room left after the Review section.

Allan Jones

Anything that Allllan Jones gives 5stars to in Uncut

They are always spectacularly joyless - latest example The Low Anthem...snore...saw them live at Bestival...snore...yawn. This song is actually so dull/contrived its funny

Right Up My Street That

I love their new album, too. Nothing joyless about it.
This is beautiful.
