Amazing headphones

Raymo's picture

Just bought a pair of these headphones:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jivo-Technology-JI-1144-Elements-Headphones/dp/B...

and have been blown away by them. Not only do they cancel out noise very effectively, they also have an incredibly detailed & clear sound with lots of bass.

I use them in the gym & reckon they're the best in-ear headphones I have ever used. I don't know if the fact that they are made of wood has anything to do with it, but they do have a kind of old-fashioned, natural sound.

If this is too like an advert, please delete. I have nothing to do with Jivo, I just wanted to share my view that, at 20 quid, these are a brilliant buy & to pass on the tip to anyone else who is looking for a decent pair of headphones to use in the gym.

If we are gonna do this

can I thoroughly recommend these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Klipsch-Image-X1-Headphones/dp/B002EL3P5U/ref=sr...

They are nominally worth £40, but even at that price they are a lot better than anything at twice the RRP.

I get through headphones

like other people do shoes or trainers.

The headphone industry must surely be bigger than it's ever been, especially with people forking out shedloads for those Dr Dre Beats thingys. I can understand why HMV want to get in on the action.

For home listening and DJ-ing I use Seneheiser HD 215 which are great and have withstood a heck of a hammering, although they do rather emphasise bass so not for people who like a completely 'flat' sound (personally I like the deep bottom end)

I'm still not comfortable with the idea of walking around wearing 'cans' even though that's the fashion nowadays. So I still use discreet in-ear for when I'm out and about
Trouble with in-ear phones, you can spend a fortune but it's impossible to try before you buy. I've got Shure SE115s which I'm reasonably happy with but not blown away by.

My SE-115s...

...took on a whole new life when I started using Comply foam tips, as recommended by Leedsboy of this parish. I really like them.

I just look like a fat Cyberman If I wear full ear-goggles, so that'll never happen in public.

Indeed

but I find they very quickly lose their ability to stay compressed for a few seconds while you fit them, and instead become spongy and makes them difficult to fit. Not sure if there is a way to restore their 'complicity'.

I've tried the triple flange sleeves (the things that look like earplugs) but they seem to get creased and knackered very quickly.

My other problem with the SE115 is the join between where you plug the cable in is really heavy and drags down on the phones pulling them out of the ear.

I've used AKG K240 cans for ever - getting on for 30 years now

and I can honestly say I've never heard anything better. They're really importable for long listening sessions and, for an over the ear design, thy feel very light.

Any great

noise-cancelling cans? I have Bose at the moment, but getting a bit worn. Use on trains and planes, so need noise-cancelling.

I don't have noise-cancelling...

...but with memory foam tips, I don't hear a thing on the Tube. And the Victoria line's a rattly bugger.

I can't use

in-ear headphones as I find them very uncomfortable. Bose v expensive, but not sure if there are better cans out there.
