Albums Where the Title Song Is On a Previous Or Subsequent One
Posted by Mike_H on 15 June 2011 - 3:26pm.
Inspired by the "No Naming Songs" Thread.
I'll start you off with Julian Cope's "World Shut Your Mouth", which is on "Saint Julian".

AC/DC - If you Want Blood
From title of a live album to a track on Highway to Hell, the next studio album.
Gomez
The song Bring It On was on the album Liquid Skin.
More Gomez
Next, they released the b-sides/sessions/new stuff compilation Abandoned Shopping Trolley Hotline, which featured the song "High On Liquid Skin"!
XTC
'Ballet for a rainy day' from Skylarking has a line about 'Orange and Lemons'.
Pretty sure the word ' Nonsuch' appears on ' Oranges and Lemons' somewhere, and on 'Nonsuch' there is a reference to Apple Venus' . A better Xtc nerd than I could probably flesh out the details here.
"A better Xtc nerd than I"
...no Doc, I'd say you were doing just fine there!
Led Zep - Houses of the Holy
Title track on Physical Graffiti
Dodgy - Homegrown
The song is on their follow up Three Piece Sweet. Which surely must lead onto a Puns in Pop thread? Stand back Jimbob.
Isn't The album called Free Peace Sweet
I never saw the pun until you just pointed it out, Mr Loaf. Cheers!
That's the problem with these bladdy puns
Free Peace Sweet it is.
Led Zep
Houses of the Holy was famously on Physical Graffiti, not HotH.
Imperial bedroom
was a B-side of Man Out Of Time 12" and Party Party 7"
Almost Blue is on Imperial Bedroom - successor to album of that name
'Little Black Numbers' is on Kathryn Williams next album 'Old Low Light'
And 'Old Low Light' is on her next album of original material 'Over Fly Over'
I thought of three the other day (must stop day-dreaming)
The Doors 'Waiting For The Sun' (LP and latter LP track).
The Hollies 'Would You Believe' (ditto).
Can't remember the third......
Sheer Heart Attack
Song ended up on News of the World released 3 albums later.
Zappa - Absolutely Free
The song appeared on We're Only In It For The Money the following year.
Almost Blue
There are much bigger EC fans here than me but I loved Almost Blue - didn't his song Almost Blue appear later?
ahem
*points upwards*
Arrrgh
My second crap post in 5 minutes.
**has little break**
Eurythmics
The song Revenge was on their first album, I think, while the album didn't appear for another decade or so.
Colour By Numbers? It was Culture Club's second album, but I think the song only appeared as a B side.
Ed Harcourt - Here Be Monsters
"Here Be Monsters" was Ed's first (full-length) album, I think, but it did not have a title track.
The song "Here Be Monsters" finally made it onto an album in 2005, on the "Elephants Graveyard" download-only collection.
Swearing alert
The magnificent punk band Fucked Up have just done something like this. They've had a character knocking around in their songs for a while, I think, primarily in a song called 'David Comes To Life' on their album 'Hidden World'.
Now they've put an entire concept album out, also called 'David Comes To Life', about him.
Here's the original song for anyone who likes a bit of shouty shouty. Hang about for the backing vocals!
PJ Harvey -Dry
the song Dry is on Rid of Me
Brain Salad Surgery
Album by ELP and track on later album Works Vol 2.
Second-tier mid 70s folk-rock alumni...
...Steve Ashley had some kind of deliberate pattern going on with his LP releases: the last line of lyric on his first LP 'Stroll On' was "...follow on"; the first line on the second LP was "Follow on...". Or something along those lines. I think it continued for another LP or two. Far too clever by half...
The Colour Of Spring
...is the title of Talk Talk's 1986 album.
The Colour of Spring, the song, is on Mark Hollis' 1998 solo album.
So... erm... this doesn't really fit this thread. Move along now.
Tom Waits - Franks Wild Years
"Franks Wild Years" album - 1987
original "Franks Wild Years" track on "Swordfishtrombones" (1983)
But Tom - why no apostrophe in "Franks"?
Kingmaker's
Eat Yourself whole appeared as a stand alone single. If you haven't heard the album I urge you to give it a go.
Jason Falkner
The song Author Unknown appears on Can You Still Feel? which was released after the album "Jason Falkner presents Author Unknown"...
Blue Oyster Cult
First album was eponymous, but they didn't release a song titled 'blue oyster cult' until their 11th album, 'Imaginos'. And that was a re-write of 'Subhuman' from their 3rd album.
