Any luck with these? Any of your own? (no three-letter titles, the less ambiguous and the more obvious the better!)

"Odessey and Oracle" - The Zombies

My first thought on seeing "Ode" was that it was a cunning trick question, to which the answer was "Odessey and Oracle" by the Zombies.
From Wikipedia:
"The famous misspelling of "odyssey" in the title was the result of a mistake by the designer of the LP cover, Terry Quirk (who was the flatmate of bass player Chris White). The band tried to cover this up at the time of release by claiming the misspelling was intentional."

Nick White | 7 November 2011 - 11:50am

Nick, you're right.

But "Odelay" was more obvious, and so a better answer.

0
Burt Kocain | 7 November 2011 - 1:22pm

But...

...my answer was more "Word".

1
Nick White | 7 November 2011 - 1:26pm

More "me"

too, as Odessey I bought (yawn) on vinyl at the time and have listened to ever since. Odelay I haven't even heard.

You're not missing much

Odelay I haven't even heard

The curse of Q.

At his peak Beck was voted Q mag's "Most important/valuable person in rock". From there it was only a short step to the loss of his muse, followed by the inevitable collapse in the sales of his albums.

0
Vulpes Vulpes | 7 November 2011 - 4:39pm

Woyaya

or something similar by Osibisa. Did it involve flying elephants courtesy of Roger Dean?

0
Ralph | 7 November 2011 - 5:02pm

You're right,

that's the answer I had in mind.

Which still leaves Zze....

has anyone checked Google? Maybe it isn't there? It's on my LP shelf anyway!

Hint: there's an Osibisa connection.

0
Vulpes Vulpes | 7 November 2011 - 7:42pm

Is it...

... Zzebra?

I didn't cheat - I did some "research" and looked it up on amg.com.

0
Billybob Dylan | 7 November 2011 - 8:13pm

Indeed it is.

Has to be really! They were half of 'If' added to some 'Osibisa' members, and it's a great little jazz funk album from around 1974.

And on drums

they had Liam Genockey, who I believe has been the Steeleye Span skinsman for going-on 20 years now.

"Ode

Sut?

Still on the Zappa theme, is it a clever typo/anagram for the first three letters of Studio Tan?

0
mojoworking | 8 November 2011 - 3:20am

*puts on David Mitchell voice*

Well, I really don't see why that could possibly be clever in any sense other than not at all. Why would I deliberately break my own rules and run the very real risk of being revealed as a charlatan and a cheat?

(I mean, bloody hell, Moj! For shame!)

0
Burt Kocain | 8 November 2011 - 3:40am

Well of course

I've got it now.

Sutras by Donovan.

For some reason I was stuck on the Zappa theme.....

*sarcastic applause*

Please surrender your "Gift From A Flower To A Garden" headband on your way out!

0
Burt Kocain | 8 November 2011 - 7:14am

You can keep the headband

but you'll have to take this from my cold, dead, er, neck:
