Album Covers

John Smart's picture

This may have been covered before(I'm new here so forgive me if it has) but are great album covers a thing of the past? I think the best ones died with the advent of CD. OK so there are a few exceptions to this rule but nothing beats the 12" album cover.

Anyone remember the Alice Cooper School's Out album that folded out into a school desk and came complete with a pair of paper knickers as a wrapper to stop the precious vinyl from falling out of the desk?

I know they're the exception rather then the rule, but...

Pet Shop Boys had a good CD cover (that orange, lego-type one).

Spiritualised also tend to go for the interesting stuff - glow in the dark cases, an album packed up like it a box of meds from a chemist (and packed, apparently, by staff from a factory that handles said product!)
Their current album is styled after hospital signs.

Like I say, they are the exceptions, but they're good nonetheless.

I agree with you on the

I agree with you on the Spiritualized Ladies & Gentlemen CD. Trouble is once you open the product you ruin the artwork; am I the only one who bought two copies so that I could keep one pill box intact?
