Adem - Love and Other Planets

Mat Riches's picture

The old apple product popped out Adem's "Spirals" today...Possibly the only song I have ever heard to mention "galactic tectonics" as part of a love song. It sent me running back into the arms of the whole album.

I had forgotten what a delicate thing of beauty this album is..

The train journey in was spent in it's warm company, eyes shut and cosy; which is unusual for the 8.55 to Farringdon.

That is all.

Small-ish world

Never met Adem but I do know one of his ex-collaborators, who helped him with his sound and lyrics in the early days, quite well.

Vastly talented guy called Marc Shearer who made a concerted attempt to become a pop star (his words) with his band 'Octopus' in 1996. Released a charming album called 'From A to B' on Parlophone and got a 3-star review in Q. Full of glistening melody.

Please don't think I'm using this blog to plug him or it. He packed it all in to teach a few years ago.

It's still out there

From A to B is still available. On iTunes et al, with some cracking customer reviews. Again I'm not pimping this out but listen to the samples for a flavour. Big, glorious Sgt Pepper type arrangments. Not particularly Adem-like but Marc could/can write and play with astonishing versatility.

And yet miserable faced plodders like the Gallaghers bestrode the '90's instead. Go figure.
