See? Told You She Was Great.

Hurrah!

She is great.

I sometimes have to punch myself in the face when I remember that I initially dismissed her utterly, on the basis that I thought LoveGame was toss. I still don't love that song, but god, was I ever wrong.

Thanks for posting, mb!

You are all so so wrong

Just another chancer with a flair for self publicity.

Nah

She's very talented I reckon, an expressive singer, great songwriter, amazing performer. What more do you want?

The flair for publicity is the icing on the cake rather than a veneer

Well said that man...

I played the above clip and it was ghastly. She's an extraordinarily average singer with access to a bottomless dressing up box.

Come now, Patrick.

She may not be to your taste, but she's absolutely got the pipes. Not that the pipes are the important thing: the songs are. And she's got those in spades, despite a disappointing second album.

I wouldn't use the clip above to try and sell her to the unconverted, but as a fan already, I was charmed.

I completely disagree...

All I hear is a singer who warbles like every other pop starlet of the past 20 years and in whom I detect not one iota of genuine emotion.

And don't get me started on the songs, which I consider to be garbage.

I loathe Lady Gaga's music and it will be a cold day in hell before I think otherwise.

Fair enough.

I disagree, but whatever floats (or not) your boat. You're missing out, IMO.

Can't help wondering what brought you to the thread, mind.

I like to see who likes her...

and why, as I genuinely can't understand why anyone would want to play her records. And also to express my approval of the Count's comment.

Fair enough #2

Ignore me. You don't have to justify yourself! Apparently I'm in a grump. (Was about to go back and edit out that last bit, but you posted before I could. Sorry.)

I guess it's just my back got up a bit at the Count's comments, as I try to stay off threads about music/culture I hate. Nobody would want me pissing all over the Mahavishnu thread, or the many football threads, so I stay off them. I prefer to piss all over the politics threads instead. ;-)

Gaga

I love Gaga, and one of the reasons for me is because she doesn't sound like every other pop starlet of the last twenty years. She's much more of a classic rock singer, IMHO - she doesn't sing her way around the notes like the warblers you refer to.

I quite like her singing a standard like this

or The Lady is a Tramp. But if I happened to hear it on one of those Radio 2's programmes like Russell Davies's, where they play records of the standards, I'm not sure her voice would stand as particularly special, alongside singers like Diana Krall or Stacey Kent. However, In a pop context, you don't hear this kind of musical theatre/jazz trained voice often, which is perhaps why people are surprised by it.

Good work, Fraser.

I'm looking forward to when she decides to give the Madonna pastiches up and dives into Blues and Jazz. That's where I think she'll be at her best.

Ignore him, Bob.

We'll pray for him. Or something.

She's got something

As someone who generally regards modern pop music as so much garbage - drum macine, elctronic mush and those warbly voices, I do like Lady Gaga. Some great songs. I think 'Poker Face' is my favourit so far..

I should have known...

...using a Gaga clip to wish you all Merry Christmas would cause trouble! I did look on youtube for a video of RT covering Santa Baby, but to no avail.
