A Spotify Promise: Broken.

Beezer's picture

The quickest way to get anything done around here is to ask The Word Massive.

I have the free version Spotify. Recently I promised a lad here at work that I would send him an invitation to it and get him on.

On checking my account details it appears I have no invitations left, despite the fact that I have no memory of ever passing any on to anyone else. So I'm a trifle fromaged that I've made a promise I now can't keep. Perhaps I should have got my facts right first.

Therefore I have two questions which I hope some of you may be able to clarify for me:

1. Does the free version of Spotify still allow invites to be sent out to others?
2. Seeing as I can't recall sending out invites to any other could there have been a glitch or error on my account that has erased or denied me the chance to invite anyone?

No doubt the question bubbling behind your own lips is 'Well ask Spotify, Vile Betrayer!'

I shall, but the most immediate and useful response has always been yours, kind Massive.

Any thoughts or comments gratefully received. Thanks.

Can't check from here

But I'll check this afternoon . Last time I checked I had some invites left, so if I still have any you can have one of them. I'll update either way

Now that is above and beyond

That is very very kind.

Thank you

EDIT: Doh - this is meant to be a reply to el hombre malo above.

you're welcome

I've got some left - send me an email, with the email address of your friend, and I'll send your friend an invite

Invites

Just checked: I've still got invites left on my account, and there's a couple left on the Word account. But the "invite" link appears to have been removed from the software itself, and is just available on the account page - I assume that's where you're looking?

Yes

I followed the FAQ guidance they offer and checked my account detail under the Help option and I have zip invitations.

Though this was after I had to re-install the software.

Thanks Fraser.

Are you looking in the right place?

It took me ages to find out where to go to send Spotify invites. I tried to send one the other day and as they've just rolled out a load of upgrades I thought maybe they'd removed the 'invite' feature altogether as part of the revamp.

But I tracked it down eventually and I seem to remember I did so by clicking 'Help' in the top right corner. I got through to a webpage with my account settings including the invites I had left.

I'm fairly certain that's how to do it - would like to double check but am at work...

Yep

Try this, Beezer:

Log in to Spotify.com, click on your username, select "Share Spotify" from the drop-down menu.

That should show how many invites you have left.

Cheers nigel

And Fraser and Joe. I've tried those so I must have used up my invitations, though I can't remember when.

Any offers to pass on an invitation to said lad will be welcomed with much gratitude.

You're a great bunch.

No Bob there ...

I've never used Spotify ...I figured I wouldn't find rare or unusual or even live Bob Dylan in that Spot ...

There is a website allegedly offering spare Spotify invites

http://spotifyinvites.org/

Here at Spotify Invites we have amassed a number of Spotify users to send you your very own Spotify invite, absolutely free with no strings attached. Why are we doing this? We want to give something back to the community, and we hope that you will share this site to all your friends so together we can all enjoy Spotify - which we think is a brilliant service.

All sounds a little too good to be true if you ask me, so I'd proceed with caution.

Same thing happened to me

I'm guessing but it looked to me as if Spotify had reached the point where they wanted to slow the number of freebie accounts and push the subscription service. To that end, any unused invites on the free accounts were deleted.

My theory is correct if the people above still with spare invites are subscribers.

Nope

I'm not a subscriber, nor is The Word. Bothy of us have invites.

Fraser Lewry | 10 May 2010 - 11:41am

No, I'm not a subscriber.

Maybe I've been lucky in avoiding a cull, but I'm still on Free

I don't know

but I think you may be right.

I feel sure I had a pile of invitations to use.

No matter. In this case El Hombre Malo has kindly sorted out the whole issue and passed on one of his.

I've a similar problem.

Would like to pass on the enjoyment of Spotify to a mate.On checking out my Spotify account It would seem invites are only available for those with a premium account.
I've just taken a look at Lastfm.A subscriber on there has listed a number of invite codes for Spotify.Anyone in the Massive tried using this approach? Was it successful? Was it safe?

Pencilsqueezer....

Send me a message using the contact thingy with your mate's email and I'll send them an invite.

I have 10 invites just now if anyone else wants one.

Woah! Spotify just turned into the love child of iTunes and Facebook. Jury's out.
