Entertainment For Lively Minds
A portrait of and for The Massive.
This is my version of a love letter to you all. Many of you wonderful people write at a level of erudition and with such quality that I am often in awe of your abilities. You make me laugh, think and now and again cry. You've turned me on to new music and made me re-evaluate my attitude to some music I thought I knew well. You've introduced me to new writers, new films and even new foods.Hell,I love you people and I consider each and every one of you my friend. It's a privilege to be considered a part of this miraculous place.
So I thought I'd use my favoured means of expression and make you this....
Each little piece is unique, just like you all are. Each little piece works in harmony with all the others to create a greater Whole, just like we do.
Have a great weekend y'all.

Speechless...
That's a lovely gesture, thanks :-)
Good man yourself..

Lovely stuff
And it even looks like us. Do you have a web site?
Thank you all but you're worth it and more you know.
Nope no site at the moment, just too busy at the moment,I'll get around to it eventually.I do post the odd image on Twitter now and again.
Thanks
pal!
Mr Squeezer sir
That is quite something matey. Perhaps Jerry should buy it for the Development Hell offices...
How thoughtful
and colourful.
That's great .
If I squint whilst looking at it, I can see lots of strange things.
Maybe I'll stop squinting.
Thank you Matey,
In a fairer world you'd be a household name and National Treasure.
All the pieces you've given to us during the meetings are cherished in this household.
Thanks.
Beautiful
'nuff said.
What a lovely gesture
Thank you for that.
A
fantastic gesture and piece of art. Thank you from a fringe member.
*smiles*
Thank you Mr. Squeezer - the place would be duller without you (Is that the right expression?)
Top Geezer
Mr Squeezer!
Pencilsqueezer?
Ah yes, I remember him when he was Loki, don't you know?
I prefer his earlier, more radical posts.
;-)
Edit: it's my desktop now. Looks great on my MacBook.
Edit number 2: Word T-shirt design? Wear and be recognised by fellow lunatics.
Nice one Pencil!
And thanks for the Manchester CD. The Mr and Mrs Pencil Squeezer autumn collection is on heavy rotation
If I abbreviate it to PS
it sounds like an afterthought, but anyway Cool Picture, Thanks, PS!
Beautiful blues and ravishing reds...
You are a gentleman, sir. What a lovely thing to have said and done.
That's really nice, Mr Squeezer
It's a bit like a Paul Klee - only even better!
I've printed out a copy. Lovely.
It's not often that I'm speechless...
... but
Cheers Mr Squeezer
Thanks it's a lovely gesture.
Thanks
It's nice to see that, collectively, we can be so inspiring.
It makes me feel things I can´t explain
Which is what great art does. Beautiful.
Any chance...
...of a really high-res version? It'd make a lovely computer wallpaper, among much else!
I keep coming back to it, since my first response, and every time it's more beautiful.
^^this
I'd love a high res version too. It's really wonderful, can't stop staring at it.
I'm now considering doing my own tribute and sculpting every member of the Massive in cake form :-D
I would be
I know it does not apply to your baking but could I be represented by a crusty bit ? or possibly now I think of it a flaky bit ?
Hahaha!
I'll see what I can do :-)
I do a mean
fruitcake, if that would help, Hannah?
If I had a band at the moment...
I'd love that as an album cover!
Great art and great words Mr. Pencil!
I know you were recently mentioning some frustration at the difficulty of getting down South for the Word events - but I think I'm not the only Southern shandy drinking softie who will be trying to make an effort to join your next Northern gathering to buy you a pint (or two!)...
Good stuff
I recognise myself at P - 12.
I'm playing imaginary battleships on it I've just blown up Lenny law at W - 7
Adopts Brian Sewell voice..
This canvas weflects the singular quality of expwession so visible in the attention to detail and care taken with the cover of the CD compilation distwibuted by the artist at the wecent NW Massive Meet. It is quite magnificent.
WOW!
I love it.
Had a very good day today and that's just topped the lot.
Nice one Centurion
lovely gesture, good man
Fantastic!
You're a very talented Man Mr Sqeezer.
I think it would be rather nice if it found it's way into the next edition
of the magazine.
Late to the party
So have a 50th UP arrow. Is now a good time to get your autograph before you become famous...
I hope you painted me next to your lovely Donna so I can explain the merits of you-know-who group. Fab, groovy and special. You are all of those things.
That's great!
Thanks Mr Squeezer. You're right, this is a wonderful place.
Mr Squeezer
That is just beautiful.
It fascinates me and lifts my spirits, just like this place. A lovely gesture, from a truly talented gent.
Can you tell what it is yet?
What it is is love expressed and reflected
keep squeezing that pencil
all best
Sheev
Fabuloso!
Lovely thought PS - very much appreciated! Should we sleep with you now?
Fantastic
What a beautiful thought and image.
You sir, have the gift.
I like the blue bits in the middle. I'm not an art critic.
Cor
well done mate. So - who's who? I think I can see Hannah at A6.
Ace!
and I really like the way that, after you stare at it for 10 minutes, you get a 3-D image of the Sgt. Pepper cover.
Beautiful eyeball pleaser
I love it and you truly are a seriously fine gentleman. And talented.
That is Lovely.
Made my day, that did.
Very beautiful
You are a talented artist indeed!
I would absolutely buy a painting from you - if I was very rich...
Lovely gesture, may your creative well never run dry sir.
Have another arrow
Maybe it could be the cover of the next "Now Hear This" CD.
:-)
Yes :-) and a manly hug .
Well paint me flabbergasted.
I NEVER expected a response like this. You are all so very kind.Thank you.Becoming a small part of the Wordiverse has changed my life in so many positive ways but most importantly of all is getting to know, albeit for the most part at a physical distance ALL of you fantastic people. You,The Word,it's staff and writers are truly special.Bless you.XX
What a lovely thing to do...
...and such beautiful execution. Have yet another up arrow sir!
Definitely need...
...a high def version. (and thanks, by the way)
Did you paint me in the nude?
If so, where did you keep your brushes..?
A blast of warmth
for a cold grotty Monday. Hmmmmm
Can we have more pixels per inch if possible please?
Lovely
I'm in a dark place at the moment Pencil but that really gave me a lift. Really beautiful piece of work.
Of all the many wonderful responses
I've read to what I thought would be a post that would disappear pretty unnoticed, yours Twang has given me the most satisfaction.I know what you and your loved ones must be going through at this time and to think that my paltry efforts have helped you even in the slightest way is deeply moving. Please give your loved ones a hug from me and Donna.XX
Now Hear This Cover/T Shirt Design
Great ideas and things that I would wholeheartedly endorse. I am sure there are other possibilities as well.
But if the Top Brass do feel they can use Peter's work in some way, can I make a gentle plea on his behalf that he gets (at least) the going rate for his efforts?
Thanks chaps.
That'll be a jar of Fraser's chutney
and a Stackridge CD then...
Would expect...
...nothing less!
Another 'up' from me
I can't work out if I'm more touched by what you've done, Mr Squeeze, or by the heartfelt appreciation from the rest of the Massive. Either way, that's a lot of loveliness to fit on one computer screen.
Have an Up arrow all of you, and an affectionate hair-scruffing too (can't believe there's no button for that yet).
Footnote.
I'd love to post a better resolved image because a great deal of the detail has been lost plus the acrylics used in it's execution are reflective so the way the image shifts and shines in changing light doesn't reproduce.I'm afraid my little camera and frankly crap photographic skills are not up to the job.Sorry and thank you all once again for your wonderful kindness.XX
have you not got a scanner
the free stitching software on the web works really well for stitching together bigger objects (sorry if this is sucking eggs)
Unfortunately not Chris.
A printer scanner dohicky is on my wish list.Being rather impoverished by years of caring for my Mum and late Father It takes me some time to save up enough cash to indulge myself and anyway the needs of my lovely wife always take priority so apart from the mingles most of what spare money there is goes on her and c.d's,books and d.v.d.s'.
Mate
That is lovely. What a joy to be able to express yourself like that.
Gosh - late to the party
How fab is that Pencilsqueezer! Thank-you so much.
How big is the original? Is it acrylics on canvas? Can we have a giveaway poster in next month's edition please??
Hi Helena,
without going into too much dull painterly detail about my working methods this piece is at the moment what I consider a miniature. It measures 26cm x 26cm and is Acrylic on paper.
I always start a piece by sketching, lots of sketching. When I feel that I have the idea pretty well fixed in sketch form and in my head I proceed to make a miniature such as this.It is a finished piece at this stage but if I am really happy with it I will then make it again at a much larger scale.
As the response by the Massive has been so overwhelmingly wonderful,I intend to proceed and make a larger version which will be roughly three times bigger.I will post an image when it's complete but that may be a little while coming as the work will take me about ninety hours to execute.
Do you think it will be ready
to be unveiled *cough* by the time of the 100th edition?
*cough*
Thanks Peter
I'm even more impressed now - all that detail in so few cms. That's something I could never do.
Good man Peter.
I was tempted to post a comedy "well actually, I'm not that keen on it" comment, but I can't. A lovely gesture, which deserves nothing but the praise it has received. And your use of colour genuinely impresses me.
Cheers!
Frankly
Astonishing.
And Gorgeous.
And touching.
Superlatives fail me.
Ahhhh....
.... that's lovely.
Magnificent
What a beautiful piece. Marvellous.
Lovely -
speaking as a tiny fleck of colour somewhere way on the margins. I don't often go for abstract but this is a definite exception. Congratulations, Mr P.
Peter
Beany alerted me to this thread last night and I'm so grateful that he did. Having been offline for a while it was lovely to come back and see something so eye-opening and unexpected from someone so familiar and open-hearted.
Thank you for sharing.
How lovely...
Soooo late to the party, but never too late to appreciate a heartfelt expression of artistic talent. I've really enjoyed reading all the warm, fuzzy posts in response to your piece; you must be so proud!
