A must for all Wire fans - the original treatment
Posted by PaddyH on 30 December 2009 - 11:55pm.
Got this from a blogger pal in Liverpool - it's the original 'proposal' document sent to HBO by David Simon.
As far as I can see it is kosher.
The detail is amazing and it is interesting to see the changes made either through casting (Judge Phelan ain't here) or development by writers.
I have been fascinated by it all day today.
Plus Stringy Bell ain't anywhere nearly as hip as Stringer.
Hope it is OK to use scribd, Fraser?

an addict writes..
It was about this time last year that I finally investigated The Wire, after all the praise from The Word people. I bought the first series box set and, as many others have found, I couldn't leave it alone. Crack TV. I bought the whole lot and devoured them in about three weeks.
And then the come-down. That's the problem with the box-set method. You get hooked so quickly it takes over your life before you know it (I'll just watch one more episode then I'll stop). But then the supply runs out. No more re-ups. The Wire and the damage done.
Now, having read this, I think I'm about ready to start watching it again. Must be careful not to go too hard at first and OD
Nick, beware Johnny
remember Johnny Weeks - Bubs told him not to keep slamming that shit - look what happened to him.
I think this is a hugely interesting insight into how the greatest piece of TV of our generation got written and made.
But then, I am a Wire trainspotter, to mix drug addict movie metaphors.
Patapsco trivia.
Did you notice that one of the ships coming into the docks was called The Valparaiso?
Only relevant on this site as there used to be a wit here with the same name.
