These days everyone has a mobile phone - which is a problem for those who make horror films. How do you convey suspense and terror if people have the means to call for help?

Nobody answers
they come to rescue but this creates a new timeline problem - will they get there in time...

phones work fine, but only when the killer calls you menacingly??
I guess the nature of the horror plays a role here too.
If it is a matter of the undead for example then "who you gonna call?" as they say.

I've seen a few films in recent years that seem to be set in the past purely to get around the modern technology issues.
