a little bit of inspiration sought

Can Word readers please help me put together the perfect Christmas playlist please- I will be playing it on Christmas day, likely during Christmas lunch with family (age ranges-32-67) it needs to be thoughtful, soulful and interesting. No cheese please- I will have had enough of that with the port.
Thanks in advance

If it's festive you're after
Stevie Wonder's Everyone's A Kid At Christmas Time is pretty good or Sammy Davis Jr's version of Jingle Bells is pretty funky (for an Xmas track, of course).
And, of course, anything from Phil Spector's Xmas album is darned great.
Paul Buchannan - Silent Night
Thoughtful, soulful and def. no cheese.
I do feel for you
unless you come the hippest family this side of Pesos I think your stuffed from my experience as in such a broad age range you'll never find something to fit. i found that even though 70% of my extended family have no great interest in music (and appalling taste) for most of the time there was no one tune they all like at christmas. Indie Christmas songs being dismissed as depressing, classical music being switched off as the throng are wanting something more update etc.. I think you may have to plump for the hubbub of merry conversation, the tingle of glasses and the clatter of cutlery and the distant sound of the eastender's theme playing for the 9th time that day.
A few suggestions:
Low - Just Like Christmas
James Brown - Santa Claus Go Straight To The Ghetto
Saint Etienne - I Was Born On Christmas Day
Otis Reading: Merry Christmas Baby
Badly Drawn Boy: Donna & Blitzen
Elvis: Blue Christmas
Johnny Cash: I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day
The Waitresses: Christmas Wrapping ( AKA The Best Christmas Song Ever)
Nadolig Llawen!
Dido
Sigor Ros
Leonard Cohen

A few more...
Ed Harcourt - In The Bleak Midwinter
Eels - Everythings Gonna Be Cool This Christmas
Noel Gallagher - Merry Christmas Everyone
Flaming Lips - A Change At Christmas (Say It Isn't So)
Rufus Wainwright - Spotlight On Christmas
Also, though it pains me to admit it, I think Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You is one of the few decent modern attempts at a big Christmas 70s pop song.
Couldn't agree more...
... at any other time of the year I'd rather fill my ears with asbestos rather than listen to Mariah Carey, but come Christmas time, you can't beat All I Want For Christmas Is You. It's ace.
