A-Levels & the Media

It’s A-Level results day today. This has become as much of an event for the media as it is for the students and their families.
It seems that every year the same old comments are wheeled out by the media: pass rates go up again, more A grades than ever before, fewer university places, are they getting easier etc...
Another regular feature in the UK news is the impression that only attractive girls do A-Levels! So for general amusement here you go...

The BBC News site, whose Magazine Monitor column has often had fun with this phenomenon, has this on it's front page at the moment.
Grauniad treatment
Whispers from inside The Guardian today. Early on the website had the usual picture of pretty blonde girls hugging each other with glee, but it sparked an outbreak of agonising over objectifying of young women and all that other Guardian type stuff. They changed it to a bunch of teenage boys arsing about.
