A Favourite Artist's Favourite Song

Steerpike's picture

Tonight Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie reminded me that Brian Eno's favourite song is 'State of Independence' - the Donna Summer version, rather than that of Jon and Vangelis.

Great song but perhaps a tad surprising from the man who can drawn upon an untold wealth of musical experiences.

Any other suggestions of favourite songs of other favourite artists of the Word Massive?

Heh

I had no idea. It's one of my favourite tunes. The two 'heys' at 2'48" just slay me. Every time.

He mentioned

it on that recent BBC4 documentary, but oddly credited Giorgio Moroder with the production instead of Qunicy Jones.

Albums, rather than tracks...

... but Trevor Horn's favourite album at one time was the Cocteau Twins' "Heaven Or Las Vegas", and Suede's Brett Anderson has often quoted The Dame's "Hunky Dory" as a fave.

Sh*te taste

I generally think that my heroes have wilfully sh*te taste - hearing Morrissey on Desert ID... bladdy 'ell. Also, Michael Stipe seems to 'big up' some pretty ordinary artists.

It seems to me that Stipe

wants to look a bit arty and often mentions artists that are a bit obscure. I have friends like this, they will name drop anything as long as it´s unknown, and it´s one of the few things in life I´m starting to think I´ve grown out of. A song doesn´t have to be crap just because it´s played on the radio and liked by "ordinary" people.
