Entertainment For Lively Minds
A Complete set of one
Posted by Steve Turner on 9 September 2010 - 9:18pm.
Following on from the completist blog I have to ask the question who only released one album but you really wish they had released more? I really loved the Plainsong album In search of Amelia Earhardt and although I have the expanded edition which includes live recordings and songs for a never released second album I feel we missed out on some great potential with this band. Who else fits this bill?

Linda Perhacs
I rather like "Parallelograms" by Linda Perhacs. An enchanting voice.
She made the album in 1970, disappeared, and has not recorded another note since.
It must be something the Irish put in the water
Sinead Lohan....from about 10 years ago. I think she got married, had a baby..........
Mary Margaret O'Hara
... released only 'Miss America', and no other albums since.
(Ok, she appeared on a Morrisey single, the new Tindersticks album, and she did the soundtrack to what looks to be a horrible Canadian rom-com. But apart from that.. she hasn't released any more albums)
And a lovely Christmas EP

The Sorrows
Of "Take A Heart" fame. I'd embed something if I knew how, but of all the 60s bands who could've but didn't, they're the ones I would have liked to see evolve.
Brian Charles
An absolutely storming powerpop album, Sadderdaydreaming. That's it. There's nothing on YouTube, but he is on myspace. If you like tuneful rocking songs, you can't
go wrong here. http://www.myspace.com/briancharlesmusic
Manchester
There are two Manchester powerpop examples that immediately come to mind. The obvious one is The Distractions masterpiece but there's also the album The Smirks recorded for Berserkley that never actually got released (although it is now available free from The Smirks website).
Lift To Experience
They are sadly missed in the Riches household. Well, they are by me. The GLW would say that it's utter shite and noise if I ever played it to her...
