9 Below Zero and Glen Tilbrook
Posted by prettyvacant on 27 March 2010 - 2:02pm.
saw them at Belfast's Spring and Airbrake last night. 9 Below as usual had a very tight sound and played the whole night with smiles on their faces. Seemed to enjoy themselves as much as we did.
I got to see Glen Tilbrook in a totally different light, as a blues guitarist no less. He rattled off solo and Squeeze numbers effortlessly and then joined 9 Below for most of their set. Played up and above the call last night, he was superb.
Highlights included "Stone Fox Chase" and a wonderful and unexpected version of "Albatros"
Two class acts on the one bill, for £25 you couldn't beat it with a big stick.

Bugger!
I knew I should have gone!
This time last week..
I was in Meribel in the French Alps. Opposite our hotel was a bar called The Rond-Point. Where The Feeling cut their teeth. And where, last Friday, they played a little outdoor gig, along with Glenn Tilbrook and Graham Gouldman from 10CC. Bloody good it was too. Last Saturday the weather was shite so I knocked the skiing on the head at lunchtime and wandered over the road to polish off a burger and chips.. sitting adjacent to Mr Tilbrook. Who had the moules. Whilst wearing a very fetching rock 'n' roll trilby.
I was going to give him a "hello" from The Massive but chickened out.
Stylist question
Were you wearing the red trousers and jumper over the shoulder that was de rigeur at the London bloggers meet up?
Ooh.. so nearly..
I went for the mustard ones.
I lie. I can't do that look properly. You need an official Flop-Haired ex-Public Schoolboy coiffure to do it justice.
Nothing worse than
having the moules when you're wearing a one piece ski suit.
(Don't bother, I'm already out the door ... )
'having the moules'
is that a euphemism for something I'd rather not think about?
He wore the trilby
in Belfast. Took it off to play the gig of course, proper gent.
Tilbrook is t'riffic...
... solo, isn't he? Fortunately he seems to like it over here (in the States) and he plays fairly frequently. I've seen him half a dozen times, both solo & with The Fluffers (and about 45 times with Squeeze), and he's always on top of his game.
Went to see him...
in Cork last Thursday, and it was great. I was talking to him briefly afterwards, and he very patiently listened to my drunken ramblings! (in my defence it was my birthday, and the Guinness was going down very easily!).
