That's how long Sex On Fire by Kings of Leon has been in our Top 40. Does this mean anything? Is it the new Bat Out Of Hell?
To be fair, Paolo Nutini aside, its the only decent song there.

I blame Michael Macintyre

And I think it's a horrible song. Good the first three or so times, utterly empty after that. I'm sure there's some sort of firey sex metaphor there but I'm too tired to find it.

Er...why? Am I missing something?

Has he decided it needs to be in the charts for that long?

I must admit

the first time I heard it I thought it was a fine piece of pop. Having heard it at every shop, bar and sports stadium I've been to in the last year has dimmed its allure a tad

Kings of Leon

seem to be the token rock choice of people who otherwise listen to nothing but R&B.

I liked the spirit of their early stuff, esp. Molly's Chambers, but this album, well produced though it is, does grate after a while.

Also, the lyrics to Sex on Fire are a bit vacuous aren't they, much like The Killers.

I think you're spot on

It does seem to be the choice for otherwise R&B fans. As a DJ, I've noticed that the same people who ask for Black Eyed Peas or 'the latest Beyonce' also seem to ask for this. For some reason it struck a chord with the unwashed masses.

The reason for this may be its pretty fat bass end. Whenever I play it (hardly ever these days, thank god), that bottom end does seem to really stick out. So to speak.

And I've also heard it in quite a few karaoke places too. The youth of today eh?

Odd

even though I like 'em to the point of having the first three albums, I have never heard this song.

Please don't take this the wrong way

but I don't believe you. How have you avoided it?

That's what I

thought!

Badartdog isn't alone...

I've probably heard it but I don't know how it goes. Is that so extraordinary? I don't listen to music radio, don't watch music TV often (I might catch a few minutes of Later if I'm channel hopping) and I'm far removed from the coalface of all things pop and rock.

Is it the new Bat Out Of Hell?

It went past that exactly a year ago.

Bat Out Of Hell, the single, troubled the compilers for exactly seven weeks, only five of them in the top 40.

The album, however, hung around for a mere 469 weeks.

Like a Fat out off Hell!

sorry, that's it

Chicken, meet Egg

According to CompareMyRadio.com, "Sex On Fire" is the 11th most-played track on UK radio in the past month - are they playing it because it's a hit, or has it stayed in the top 40 because radio hasn't stopped playing it?

Insert "Damning indictment on state of UK radio" rant here...

see,

this is what happens when you allow downloads to count as much as CD purchases.

If it was just down to physical sales (like it used to be), then it would have disappeared ages ago.
