2011 Emmys

James Blast's picture

Modern Family did well, this makes me very happy.
The no show of Raising Hope makes me sad but the lady above allas brings me joy!
I do hope Mad Men will run for longer than the 5 series it's been hinted at.

I thought they'd confirmed there would be 3 more series?

On the plus side, I've only watched the first 2 so far. Having a little gap but series 3 is sat there waiting for when I'm ready.

Treat

I think you're in for a treat, I thought that season 3 was much better than 2. A lot of Season 2 seemed to struggle to transition from a one series story into something that had staying power. Season 3 didn't have the same constraints so they could just get on with intertwining the stories.

I heard 5 then... dead

I hope I meringue.
Lemme just post these to let everyone know we need more and that we're all singing from the same hymn sheet.

No John Hamm (obviously) because he's waaay too handsome.
No man on earth should look as good as he does!

Christ.

Two words, both "hubba".

Can't remember who, but last night someone on Twitter said "It's like a genie gave Christina Hendricks three wishes and she chose 'bigger boobs' for all of them."

0
Bob | 19 September 2011 - 8:24pm

Regarding the toothsome Ms Hendricks

I vouchsafe that she does display a most charming embonpoint and the images above of which do rest most pleasantly upon the eye.

Mind you, that's straightforward enough when you've got fucking massive tits like what she has.

Lenny Law | 19 September 2011 - 10:59pm

A younger Christina features

in 2 episodes of the late lamented Firefly.
She plays a very sexy baddie (or would you prefer "a very naughty girl").
The dvd's worth it just for that but I was a big fan of the series and the movie Serenity which rounded the storyline off after the moronic TV execs canned it.

aging hippy | 20 September 2011 - 12:47am

Reasons to watch Firefly

you forgot to mention her taking off her clothes in Firefly.
And for people of a different orientation, Nathan Fillon doing the same.

but honestly, it is a bloody silly idea but a great series.

paulwright | 20 September 2011 - 4:57pm

And it also starred

Morena Baccarin, the woman who plays uber-bitch alien queen Anna in the re-booted V series. In Firefly, she plays a kind of intergalactic courtesan who has a history with Cap'n Mal Reynolds

With her long hair in Firefly

She's possibly the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.

0
aging hippy | 20 September 2011 - 6:08pm

not forgetting

Summer Glau, Jewel Staite and Gina Torres. Joss Wheedon does appear to have an eye for the ladies.

0
paulwright | 20 September 2011 - 6:45pm

Not 'arf

Sarah Michelle Gellar
Eliza Dushku
Alyson Hannigan
Amy Acker
The slightly oriental looking one who was in Dollhouse
(and more recently Torchwood)
and not forgetting the pneumatic
Charisma Carpenter.

Good Call. Lenny!

I was so taken with her acting that I really hadn't noticed the rest of her. And now that I have, I expect that i shall be thinking of little else for the time being.

What is it about these well-proportioned red heads? Here's a picture of Audrey Fleurot out of Spiral / Engrenages, acting.

I would pay good money...

I was hoping for something black & lacy...

... but I'll take what I can get.

0
Metal Mickey | 20 September 2011 - 1:37pm

"No Jon Hamm, obviously?"

Not having that, Mr Blast.
It's only fair. If you lot are going to lech, then this Word Bird will have her turn, too:

0
drakeygirl | 20 September 2011 - 4:16pm

Don Draper...

...see I only fancy Don Draper, not Jon Hamm.

Without the clothes, suits and with his hair longer and pushed off his face, Mr Hamm doesn't do it for me much at all. I probably still would, but with not quite as much enthusiasm as if it were Mr Draper.

0
JoLean | 20 September 2011 - 6:21pm

I think we may be

singing from the same hymn sheet, Jo.

In the words of The Crystals: "We'd do Don, Don, Don, not Hamm, just Don."

0
drakeygirl | 20 September 2011 - 6:27pm

Hell!

I think I would too!!! :)

Cracking pair of...

Emmys?

0
fedoraboy | 21 September 2011 - 10:03pm

Modern Family's great

Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen both deserve their awards. A great comedic pairing.

Not watched Game Of Thrones but always good to see Peter Dinklage getting something.

Kate Winslet looked stunning - as per normal. Ariel Winter provoked some disquiet.

0
Grant | 19 September 2011 - 7:25pm

Game of Thrones is great

Having read the books I had my doubts but was pleasantly surprised.
Peter Dinklage is terrific - about as far from The Station Agent as it's possible to get.

0
aging hippy | 20 September 2011 - 12:57am

I'm about to start the second part of book 3

and agree that the TV show is pretty much bang on in terms of an interpretation. Dinklages portrayal of Tyrion in the show was absolutely brilliant; I thought most of the lines were written for the show, but a hell of a lot of them crop up in the books.

Anybody who's *not* seen Game of Thrones and given it a wide berth because they don't think they'd like "that sort of thing" is advised, by somebody who had the exact same fears, that they really really really should give it a shot.

GOT - Fantasy for people who don't like fantasy

Agreed on this point - as someone who gave up on Lord Of The Rings after the first film, I feared the worst from GOT, but was pleasantly surprised... in fact, aside from the ambiguous intro to episode 1, it could all be taking place in some alternate medieval kingdom, and there actually isn't anything magick-y in it [SPOILER!] until the end... and Peter Dinklage is ace, of course.

0
Metal Mickey | 20 September 2011 - 11:31am

Modern Family's good but Parks and Recreation is really great

That's the show that should have cleaned up the comedy awards. Especially the fella who plays Ron 'F-ing' Swanson.

Get the episodes by naughty means or buy the R1 Dvd's. It's brilliant.

0
MrSib | 20 September 2011 - 9:41am

Justified

Margo Martindale's deserved award for her mighty Mags Bennet, surely the best TV villain of the year

3
On The Fence | 19 September 2011 - 8:31pm

Blimey

but the show "The Emmys" was surely designed by people with Attention Deficit Disorder for people with Attention Deficit Disorder..It was bloody puerile!

0
Bingham | 19 September 2011 - 8:32pm

Fox

indeed!

1
Black Type | 19 September 2011 - 10:21pm

Modern Family

It is consistently excellent. I am half way through the second season and their hasn't been a dud.
The writing and performances really are out of the top drawer and at a rate of 4 or 5 laugh out louds per episode it acts as a real tonic to the comedies being peddled whose modus operandi seem to be more about making you 'think'.
Sod thinking for once, show me funny.
