JLS

One of the breakfast DJs on Heart FM (don't ask) described JLS as 'the new Bros' this morning.

0
busker_du | 2 November 2009 - 10:27pm

Songwriter, mostly according to wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betty_Boo

*wonders if Lennylaw's around to offer his catchphrase*

0
el hombre malo | 2 November 2009 - 10:46pm

Would he?

He probably would

20yrs ago.... All available money spent every week going to a daft nightclub that would be swiftly forgotten !

Sigh

Blow Monkeys - "Wait"

0
Sheev | 2 November 2009 - 11:00pm

Sorry for breaking the thread

but whatever happened to Dr Robert? "Aeroplane City Love Song", "Digging Your Scene"? Now THERE was a band!

0
Dave Amitri | 2 November 2009 - 11:06pm

Apparently...

.. The Blow Monkeys have just reformed !

http://www.theblowmonkeys.com/

0
the mvps | 2 November 2009 - 11:09pm

OY!

That was Robert Howard & Kym Mazelle, NOT the Blow Monkeys
Plus - closer to 21 years ago (certainly - much earlier than the miraculous musical upturn that (somehow) suddenly happened in the magical Autumn of 89).

...anyway. Not bad. I preferred Promised Land by the Style Council, to be honest - cur from the same cloth

0
JeffLeopard | 2 November 2009 - 11:10pm

You Know

It Doesn't Have To Be That Way!

0
Dave Amitri | 2 November 2009 - 11:17pm

The Promised Land

Apparently was the single that convinced Polydor that Weller had lost his marbles!

Check out the Joe Smooth Inc original. Detroit classic!

Summer/ Autumn 1989

Was my second summer of rap (and the Roses). But this was a very glamourous million miles away from the reality of a crap unfinished new town, working in a pub and A Levels

Would have given the R A to be at the Hacienda, though

Wanted to do Double Trouble & Rebel MC Street Tuff

But it can't be embedded, so here's

0
Five-Centres | 3 November 2009 - 1:31pm

Sydney!

The man with the coolest speaking voice ever. I remember listening to interviews with him whilst in the common-room at uni. We had to scrape the girls off the radio.

And the Rebel MC! Choon (as I believe it is phrased in the vernacular)!

SomethingSomethingSomething an' I hear you wunda
"Is 'e a Yankee?" Nah - I'm a Lundahna!

Now where was that in the greatest rhymes thread?

I'm off to find MC Tunes..

Bums. 1990.

0
Lenny Law | 3 November 2009 - 8:30pm

what a pile of poo

honestly.

It's Alright

Viva Acid House

0
jezk | 3 November 2009 - 4:04pm

Sterling Void

did the original if I remember correctly? Wasn't 89 the year when US garage started taking over from Acid House ? Ten City, Blaze etc.

0
GunsOfBrixton | 3 November 2009 - 8:59pm

True...

...but tend to think of acid house as a term summing up the whole golden age 88-91. Sterling Void did indeed do the original, just dug it out on vinyl on "The House Sound Of Chicago: Volume III: Acid Tracks". Scarily, that came out in 1987! As did this (originally) but was a hit in the UK in 89...(I'm starting to sound like paul gambaccini)

0
jezk | 3 November 2009 - 11:05pm

Another classic from 89

This is a great site too: http://pureclubclassics.blogspot.com/

0
GunsOfBrixton | 4 November 2009 - 9:08pm

What a performance...

Viva Acid House

Actually, this might be 88, but still a great clip

1
jezk | 3 November 2009 - 4:08pm

Love it

I played Bummed to death. This is when The Mondays were at their best.

0
jamesieboy37 | 4 November 2009 - 8:57pm

Sigh

20 years... How? HOW?

0
Nick_Setchfield | 3 November 2009 - 7:13pm

Exactly

- how the hell is it nearly 20 years since 1990? 20 years ago, nearky 21 since Rickie Lee Jones released Flying Cowboys? And 1990 itself - 23 years after some lot sang "It was 20 years ago today"? Nah - not possible

0
Sheev | 3 November 2009 - 7:58pm

Edie Brickell Anyone ?

Does anyone remember a cracking remix of this that sounded like Soul II Soul?

0
GunsOfBrixton | 3 November 2009 - 8:57pm

Oh yes..

Drums from Keep On Movin', I think. A bootleg, never did find it down my local Our Price. And this was good too... (Similar thing with Edie Brickell-Circle)

You're digging up really shit music just for a laugh aren't you?
