ATM: Downloading YouTube videos that are in RTMP protocol
At last STV have released all four series of their late ‘70s / early ‘80s jazz series imaginatively titled ‘The Jazz Series’ on their YouTube channel. Because a few tracks from series 4 hosted by Ronnie Scott have sporadically appeared only to vanish shortly afterwards, I’m keen to download the shows to watch on my iPad during what may transpire to be a summer full of air travel.
The problem is my regular software for capturing YouTube clips cannot download these with the error message ‘RTMP protocol is not currently supported’. I’ve tried other software but without success.
Does anyone know of software that can overcome this obstacle?
Many thanks!
Great Song - Cold Specks: Holland
Just wanted to share this song. I am really loving it at the moment & thought it may appeal to some of the word bloggers.
Long Forgotten Pop Acts of the Past Twenty Years
It's Friday night - who fancies playing a game?
Are there any pop acts from the past 20 years who everyone bar you seems to have forgotten ever existed? If so, leave a comment posting one of their hits in the thread below.
Rules are as follows:
1. They must have had at least one Top 20 hit in the UK (here, Every Hit is your friend.
2. The more obscure the better - an act who 99% of the population (including members of the artist's immediate family) will have barely any recollection of are perfect.
3. Bonus points if you have any spectacularly trivial facts about them.
I'll start the ball rolling with this. An Irish female rap duo who reached #17 in 2000 with this cover of a Bananarama track.
Pointless trivia: Naomi Lynch (the dark-haired one) comes from a pop family; her brother, Shane, is in Boyzone (and also features in this video) and her two sisters - Edele and Keavy - were in B*Witched.
Hats off to them - clever music ideas
I was sent this link today & am mightily impressed with it so thought I should share. Apologies if someone has beat me to it - I couldn't see it anywhere.
I just can't picture turning up for a band practice & saying 'let's all 5 of us play the one guitar' without being lambasted by my bandmates for being daft!
I also love this video of the Ukes incorporating 5 songs into one & it not sounding rubbish.
Does anyone have any other great examples of these clever music ideas?
What it's really like to work in a music store
I'm sure some of the massive will be able to sympathise with this chap. There are several of these on his you tube channel.
An interview with a one year old boy
Funnier than Phil Stupidass.
"I'm only 13 and I love this...
.. I wish I was born when this was popular...
With a shedload of thumbsup.
Really?
This is so everywhere on youtube comments it can only be e-B.S. I can easily imagine some creepy old bloke posting up as a teenbopper. For why?
Do peeps seriously think this is for real?
"... much better than Justin Beiber/ Lady Gaga...."
And this on youtube music which has absolutely nothing to do with the target audience (e.g. Rush). Pretty much like saying "I really like the Dalai Llama – much better than Hitler IMHO".
Why all the hate on music that zippedoodah to do with us?
Jackanory has really gone downhill recently
The number of kiddie-related links in this week's Something For The Weekend made me think of this:
It's a real book, you can buy it in real life or Kindle-ised, or as the above-featured audiobook. All necessary links can be found here:

Is it possible to "hide" YouTube comments?
Does anyone know a way to hide the cretinous comments section when looking at YouTube clips? They add absolutely nothing to the experience, and if anything they distract from your enjoyment of the clip and are usually just downright depressing to read. I'm convinced people go out of their way to find things they hate just to make ill informed comments about them. So if anyone knows of some sort of F**kwit filter that can be applied to YouTube do let me know.
I Am Going To Stand My Ground
The Decemberists' new LP The King Is Dead has been on heavy rotation in Drake Towers this week, and Track 3 (Rise To Me) really stood out for me:
It's a beautiful melody, with a warmth and a touching quality to it (helped by luscious harmonies from Gillian Welch). But something about the fierce defiance of the chorus really moved me.
Looking for Decemberists' stuff on YouTube, I read a comment which revealed the song is written about lead singer Colin Meloy's son, who has been diagnosed with autism. It wasn't until I read this, that it made sense why it seemed to strike such a chord with me. My daughter is disabled, and in just a few simple lines this song sums up some of the sadness, love, hope and pride I feel as her parent.
I'm going to see the band in concert in March. I think when I hear this live, I might have a bit of a 'moment'.
Hey Henry can you hear me?
Let me see those eyes
This distance between us
Can seem a mountain sizeBut boy:
You are going to stand your ground
They rise to you, you blow them down
Let me see you stand your ground
If they rise to you, you blow them downMy darling, my sweetheart
I am in your sway
To cold climes comes springtime
So let me hear you sayMy love:
I am going to stand my ground
They rise to me and I'll blow them down
I am going to stand my ground
They rise to me and I'll blow them down
